It was lunch break. Mia Carter was resting at her desk when the lead secretary, Ruby Foster, walked over to chat.
Mia was almost three months pregnant now. Her arms and legs were still slender.
But her curves, which were already impressive, had become even fuller.
Over the last couple of days, her professional suits had started feeling uncomfortably tight.
Ruby’s sudden comment made Mia jump. she instinctively tugged at her blazer to straighten it.
Yeah, a few pounds. My metabolism is slowing down now that I’m getting older.”
Since she’d been cleared of the “mole” suspicions, most of her colleagues believed her and treated her just like they ased to.
Ruby Foster had been with the company two years longer than Mia. She had helped Mia a lot when she first started, and she was genuinely kind.
Ruby sat down across from Mia with a cup of warm water.
Speaking of which, let me ask you something personal. What’s the deal with you and Mr. Rivers?”
Mia
gave a helpless smile. “Mr. Rivers was just joking. I’m just a secretary he’s only using me to get under Ethan’s
skin.”
Ruby nodded repeatedly. “I figured as much. To rich guys like them, we’re just pawns they can move around however they want. I’m glad you see it that way. I was worried you’d actually take him seriously.”
‘No way,” Mia said, forcing a faint smile.
But the truth was, when Ethan first asked to marry her, she had taken him seriously.
She really thought marrying him would be her ‘happily ever after.’ She had been so naive back then.
Now, she was wide awake.
‘I have a nephew, he’s two years older than you,” Ruby said. “He just got back from studying abroad. How about I
set you two up?”
Ruby pulled out her phone, found a photo, and held it out to Mia. “You’re not getting any younger, Mia. It’s time to start thinking about your future.”
“I’m not looking to date right now.” Mia didn’t even glance at the screen before pushing the phone back.
She had a baby growing inside her. Going on a date would just be a waste of the guy’s time, and she’d be lying to
him.
“Even if you
don’t want a boyfriend, you have to at least look like you’re dating,” Ruby insisted.
She sent the photo to Mia via WhatsApp. “It’s the only way to get Chloe off your back.”
The idiots in the office just loved the drama, thinking Mia was trying to claw her way between Ethan and Chloe.
But the smart ones knew better. Chloe just didn’t want any woman near Ethan.

Especially not a beautiful, single woman like Mia.
Ruby had a point, but Mia still couldn’t do it.
Seeing the look on her face, Ruby didn’t back down. “So you’ll let Stella play matchmaker, but not me?”
“What?” Mia blinked, totally caught off guard.
“Stella’s been hitting up every matchmaker in town for you lately. But what kind of quality guys do those services have? It’s all desperate losers who can’t land a wife on their own…”
Ruby kept rambling.
Mia stood there, completely lost. She had no idea any of this was happening.
“Fine, I’ll handle it. You’re meeting him this weekend.”
Ruby finalized the plan on her own, stood up, and headed for the door.
“Wait, Ruby!” Mia called out, standing up to stop her. But Ruby was already gone, moving too fast for Mia to get a
word of rejection in.
Mia was about to chase her to her office, but then her desk phone buzzed.
