The walk toward her felt longer than it actually was, the lights in that part of the club were dim enough that nobody really noticed who was moving where, and I used that to my advantage, staying close to the edge of the crowd, slipping between bodies without drawing attention to myself.
My eyes never left her, not for one second, not even when someone bumped into my shoulder and muttered an apology i didn’t bother acknowledging.
The guy was still close to her, his hand resting on her waist like he had any right to be there, and something hot and unreasonable stayed in my chest watching it.
“Calm down Adrain, this is a public space and she is a grown woman who could handle herself.” I told myself but none of that logic did anything to slow me down.
Then the song ended. I think it is that usual small gap of silence between tracks, for people to shift and reset themselves before the next beat dropped, and in that gap, the guy finally stepped back from her, probably going to get a drink or find someone else to bother. I didn’t wait to see where he went. The moment the space behind her cleared, I moved into it.
The next song started, something slow with a heavy bassline, and before she could even register that someone new was behind her, I had already matched her rhythm, my hands finding her waist the same way his had, except mine felt different, mine felt like they belonged there, I believe that.
She didn’t turn around, she just leaned back slightly, the way people do when they’re too deep in a song to think about who exactly they’re dancing with, and for a moment I let myself enjoy it, just the two of us moving like that, her back against my chest, neither of us saying a word.
I should have said something sooner, but I didn’t want to break it yet. I wanted a few more seconds of her not knowing, of her dancing with me like she had been dancing with anyone else tonight, completely unaware that her CEO was the one holding her now and not some stranger with an expensive watch.
Eventually I leaned down, my mouth close enough to her ear so that she would feel my breath before she heard my voice.
“So this is why you didn’t reply to my messages,” I said, loud enough that only she could hear it over the music.
She froze instantly, her whole body went stiff against mine, and then she spun around so fast she nearly lost her balance, her eyes landing on my face and widening like she had just seen something she wasn’t prepared for.
“Adrian,” she said, or tried to, because the second her mouth opened to say more, I lifted my hand and pressed it gently over her lips, cutting off whatever explanation she was about to throw at me. Her eyes went even wider óver my palm, confused, maybe a little annoyed, but I didn’t give her room to argue. I took her free hand in mine and started walking, weaving us both through the crowd and out toward the entrance before she had the chance to recover enough to protest properly.
The night air hit me the moment I stepped outside, cooler than the heat inside the club, and my car was already waiting exactly where I had left it. I opened the door and practically guided her in before sliding in after her, shutting the door on the noise and the lights and leaving just the two of us in that quiet leather space.
She turned to face me almost immediately, her chest still rising fast front the dancing, or maybe from something else entirely. “Are you stalking me?” she asked, her voice somewhere between shocked and amused. “How did you even… what are you doing here?”
I couldn’t help the laugh, the whole thing suddenly struck me as ridiculous now that we were sitting face to face in the back of my car instead of standing in a dark club pretending not to recognize each other. “I had a meeting.” I said, still smiling.
Business, nothing exciting I was on my way out when I saw you dancing like someone who doesn’t have deadlines.”
“Oh she said, and that was it. Just that one syllable, soft and small, like her brain had completely run out of anything useful

I watched her for a second, enjoying the way she shifted in her seat, clearly aware that she had nothing else to say for herself. The silence between us stretched just long enough to feel the mood before I broke it again.
“You didn’t reply to my messages,” I said, keeping my tone light, though it wasn’t really a question.
She straightened a little, recovering some of her composure. “I was going to reply after the party,” she said, lifting her chin slightly like that explanation should be enough to settle the matter completely.
“So you can say no,” I said, watching her face closely. “But you can’t. Right?”
“Maybe,” she said finally, and then she paused again, her eyes flicking away from mine for a second before coming back. “But I don’t think that should be a problem because…”
I never got to hear the rest of that sentence. Before she could finish, I leaned forward and kissed her, cutting off whatever clever excuse she had been building, my hand sliding up to the side of her face to keep her right where I wanted her. She made a small sound against my mouth, somewhere between surprise and something far less innocent, and then her hands were gripping the front of my shirt like she needed something to hold onto.
The kiss didn’t stay soft for long, it deepened the moment she stopped fighting it, her fingers curling tighter into the fabric of my shirt, pulling me closer instead of pushing me away. I forgot about the club, about the senator’s dinner, about every business call waiting for me on my phone.
There was just her mouth against mine and the small, quigt noise she made that I knew I would be thinking about for the rest of the night.
