HIS STRIPPER, HIS WIFE novel Chapter 93

Chapter 93

Adrian

I walked over to the side wardrobe and pulled another shirt over my head, my back still turned to the door. I heard it click shut behind me, and when I turned around, my sister was already sitting on the edge of the bed like she owned the room, one leg crossed over the other and arms folded.

“What do you want? This is the second time you’re coming here today,” I said, folding my own arms and staring at her, waiting for whatever explanation she had prepared this time.

“Easy, brother. I just came back to pick something I forgot,” she said, waving a hand like walking into my house twice in one day without warning was something she did every week.

“Is that why you were out there asking if it was the same woman or another one? How exactly did you think that sounded?” I asked, keeping my voice as level as I could manage, though it was taking more effort than I wanted to admit, especially with Bianca still sitting downstairs, probably replaying that exact question over and over in her head.

She laughed, tilting her head back slightly, “oh that? I was only joking. I don’t see why you’re so worked up about it.”

“You shouldn’t joke about things like that. It’s…” I didn’t get to finish before she cut in.

“Oh wow. You? Adrian?” she said, repeating it like she couldn’t quite believe the words coming out of her own mouth.

And honestly, I understood exactly why she said it that way. I would have said the same thing if I were standing where she was standing. There was a version of me that used to move through women the way some people moved through a buffet line, taking a little of everything and never staying long enough to actually taste any of it properly.

But that person didn’t exist anymore, not after everything that happened. I already made a decision that I wasn’t going to live like that again, no matter how much easier it might have been.

“I know,” I said, cutting through my own thoughts before she could say something else. “I get it, I just thought that since it’s been a while since you’ve seen me with anyone, you might be trying to get your old jokes back into circulation.” She was still smiling.

“I’m not interested in that anymore, so I would appreciate it if you stopped,” I added, and I meant it, even if my tone came out lower than I wanted it to.

She studied me for a moment, she was giving me that usual look she’s always on when she’s not ready to drop a topic yet.”

“Is this because of her?” she asked, pointing toward the door with a smile on her face.

I didn’t answer, I couldn’t, not without either lying outright or admitting something I wasn’t ready to say out loud, not even to myself, let alone to her.

“Oh wow,” she said again, and this time she laughed properly, “You like her enough to actually keep her around, and you won’t even say it? Adrian.”

I let out a breath and dragged a hand across my face, deciding it was easier to change direction than to keep standing there letting her pick me apart piece by piece.

“Are you still planning on leaving the country, or are you staying back now?” I asked, tossing the question at her.

She blinked, clearly not expecting the sudden turn, then a slow smile came on her face, like she had already decided to have fun with it.
