His Wicked Obsession (Archer and Virginia) novel Chapter 110

Rupert Finch wore a casual navy-blue button-down with the sleeves rolled up twice, exposing the Rolex Submariner on his wrist.

He was in his early thirties and relatively handsome, but when he smiled, there was an incredibly unsettling, predatory gleam deep in his eyes.

He pushed the door open but didn't immediately speak. Instead, he brazenly dragged his gaze up and down Virginia's body before dropping casually onto the sofa.

Virginia was wearing a mocha turtleneck sweater today, her hair tucked neatly behind her ears, and a light layer of makeup on her face.

A spark of unmistakable interest flashed in Rupert's eyes. It took him a long moment to pull his gaze away and lean against the backrest. "Dr. Caldwell. I've heard a lot about you."

"Mr. Finch." Virginia opened his assessment file, keeping her tone strictly professional. "How long have your insomnia symptoms been persisting? Are there any other issues troubling you?"

"...About six months, I guess." Rupert stared openly at her lowered eyelashes, his gaze heavily invasive. "Tossing and turning every night. My head is full of all sorts of crazy images."

"Have you ever undergone a sleep study?"

"I did. They couldn't find anything wrong." He leaned forward, closing the distance between them. "Dr. Caldwell, you're gorgeous, and you have an amazing voice. Mind if I ask... do you have a boyfriend?"

Virginia's pen paused. She looked up at him. "Mr. Finch. Let me ask you, do you experience any feelings of anxiety or palpitations when you can't sleep?"

Rupert rested his chin on his hand and flashed a wide grin. "I do. Especially right now. My heart is beating way too fast, it's actually kind of uncomfortable. Want to feel it?"

Virginia's eyes darkened. Suppressing the overwhelming urge to throw him out of her office, she forced herself to stick to the standard consultation protocol.

Rupert answered the next few questions cooperatively enough, but as the session progressed, his remarks became increasingly inappropriate.

"Dr. Caldwell, you still haven't answered my question. Say, if I could fall asleep listening to your voice every night, do you think my insomnia would be cured?"

Virginia set her pen down, her expression turning glacial. "Mr. Finch!"
