That night, at the Caldwell villa. Chloe carried Toby out of the car and headed upstairs in absolute silence. Archer didn't pay it much mind, but Madeline Caldwell noticed something was off and asked him if anything had happened. Before he could fully process the situation, the sound of things being smashed echoed from upstairs, followed by Toby wailing at the top of his lungs. Madeline's face went pale with fright. She turned and sprinted up the stairs, with Archer frowning and following behind. The door to Chloe's bedroom was wide open. Ignoring Toby's crying, she had him by one hand and was dragging a suitcase with the other, marching toward the door with red-rimmed eyes. "Chloe, what are you doing?" Madeline's heart skipped a beat. She hurried forward to scoop Toby up, patting his back comfortingly while asking anxiously. "What am I doing? I'm leaving!" Chloe locked eyes with the man at the door. Her voice was shrill, laced with absolute desperation. "Archer doesn't love me, and he doesn't love Toby. I'm taking Toby away right now!" "...Chloe, calm down." Archer's brows knitted together, a headache forming. "Calm down?" She snapped her head up, tears streaming down her face. "You knew how much this sports day meant to Toby, but what did you do? You deliberately let her win in front of all those people! Where does that leave me and Toby!?" Toby, terrified by her outburst, shrank into Madeline's embrace. His chubby little face scrunched up as he opened his mouth and wailed even louder. Madeline's heart ached. Her own eyes reddened as she cooed, "Don't be scared, don't be scared. Grandma's here." She then turned to the hysterical Chloe. "Chloe, are you overthinking this? Archer definitely didn't do it on purpose. Besides, Toby is so little, don't scare him." "Archer, say something." Though she didn't know exactly what had happened, her only thought was to soothe Chloe's emotions. Archer frowned. "Mom, take Toby out of here first." "No!" Chloe's face twisted into an ugly sneer, and she lunged toward Madeline. "Archer, that bitch Virginia seduced you right in front of me, and you're still protecting her! You even want to take Toby from me!" "The child is innocent." He met her eyes, a faint trace of impatience flashing in his gaze. "That's because his father doesn't care about him!" Chloe's voice remained piercing, and Toby was crying so hard he could barely catch his breath. The entire Caldwell house was in total chaos. Tears welled in Madeline's eyes as she shot Archer a pleading look. "Archer, you know Chloe's condition. She has no sense of security. Can't you just give in a little and say something soft to her?" Archer didn't reply, but his expression grew colder than before. Seeing this, Madeline didn't dare push further. Sighing, she carried Toby out of the room. Chloe tried to chase after them but was blocked by Archer. Immediately, she threw herself at him, her fists wildly pummeling his chest. "I hate you! I hate you! You married me and we had a child, so why!? Why are you still thinking about that bitch Virginia!?" "...What do you want me to do?" Archer stood perfectly still. His voice was flat, devoid of any inflection, and his eyes carried a trace of numbness. Chloe suddenly threw her arms around him, holding on tightly. "I want you to swear." "I want you to swear that you won't have any feelings for Virginia, or any other woman!" "Archer, you're mine. You can only be mine in this life..." Archer lifted his gaze, staring out the window through the slightly swaying curtains. After a long time, a sentence rumbled from deep within his throat: "I promised you that I'd stay by your side until you get better."
