Archer stopped abruptly. Not paying attention, she smacked face-first into his broad back. Jolted to a halt, she looked up at him in surprise.

With a sharp frown, he reached out and enveloped her icy hand in his warm palm.

Virginia froze for half a second. Snapping back to reality, she violently yanked her hand away, took a pale, stumbling step backward, and put distance between them.

Archer's hand hovered in midair for a long moment before dropping slowly to his side. He didn't reach for her again.

"Get in. It's on my way."

Virginia finally noticed the sleek black SUV idling right behind him.

She glanced up at him. Seeing his calm, utterly detached expression, she ultimately didn't refuse.

The car didn't head to her hotel. Instead, it pulled up outside a towering commercial high-rise in the business district.

"I have an important negotiation to handle," Archer said, stepping out first. "I'll have my driver take you back to your hotel afterward."
