Kian took Doctor White's boarding pass to double-check the flight details, then effortlessly grabbed the older man's suitcase, wheeling it toward the check-in counter.
At the boarding gate, Doctor White looked at the two of them with a warm smile. "Alright, alright, that's enough. It's not like I'm leaving forever. I'll be back in a month."
"Have a safe flight, sir."
Standing beside them, Virginia reached out to adjust the scarf around Doctor White's neck, chiming in right after Kian. "Text us to let us know you landed safely."
"I know, I know. You two nag me more than my own daughter does."
Doctor White waved dismissively and headed toward the security checkpoint. After taking a few steps, he turned back and shouted at Kian, "Make sure you look after Virginia!"
Kian raised his hand and flashed an 'OK' sign.
Virginia couldn't help but sigh at the display. She turned to Kian. "Don't go secretly reporting back to him about me."
"I haven't said a word," Kian replied innocently, throwing his hands up in surrender before smoothly reaching out to adjust the scarf around her neck. "Come on. Let me drive you back."
The two walked out side by side. Kian took the outer edge of the walkway, deliberately slowing his long strides to match her pace. Every so often, he would look down at her with a gentle smile, making light conversation.
They stood very close to one another. From a distance, it painted a picture of absolute intimacy—a private world that no one else could possibly intrude upon.
Standing behind the floor-to-ceiling windows on the second floor of the airport, Archer had just finished seeing off a business partner who had flown in from overseas.
Out of the corner of his eye, his gaze swept across the main lobby...
A bellflower-blue trench coat, a low bun, and a delicate but stunning profile.
It was her.
She was walking shoulder-to-shoulder with a tall, slender man in a black suit.
The man was completely focused on her, carefully guarding her side and smoothly stepping in to block a frantically rolling luggage cart from hitting her.
From Archer's vantage point, the man's large hand appeared to be lingering permanently on the small of her back...
Archer stopped dead in his tracks. Something dark and violent churned violently in the very depths of his ink-black eyes.
Zachary stood by the Maybach with the rear door pulled open. Noticing his boss hadn't moved an inch, he cautiously called out, "Mr. Vanderbilt?"
Archer stood frozen for three agonizing seconds. Slowly, he uncurled his fists, tore his gaze away, and ducked into the car.
"Back to the office."
