His Wicked Obsession (Archer and Virginia) novel Chapter 185

Archer stepped up to the bed, his dark eyes instantly locking onto the thick bandages around Chloe's wrist.

"What happened?"

Chloe looked up at him, silent tears streaming down her pale face. She looked like a picture of absolute devastation. "I... I don't know. My mind was just in chaos. I couldn't control myself..."

She let out a broken sob, her voice shattering. "Archer, is my illness never going to get better? Dr. White is gone now too. Am I just going to be... am I going to be a broken invalid for the rest of my life?"

Hearing this, Madeline broke down into fresh tears. "Chloe, please don't talk like that. You're breaking your mother's heart."

Archer remained silent for a long moment. He took a seat on the edge of the bed and gently patted her shoulder, just as he had done countless times before.

"You won't. Stop overthinking."

His tone was incredibly steady, his gaze completely unreadable. There wasn't a single trace of unnecessary emotion on his face.

"Dr. White will be back in a month. In the meantime, I'll arrange for other top psychiatrists to take over. Just focus on your treatment, and you will recover."

Beneath the blankets, Chloe's fingernails dug furiously into her palms in bitter frustration. But when she looked up, her tear-soaked eyes sparkled with forced relief.

"I trust you, Archer. You... you won't ever abandon me, right?"

Archer's brow furrowed. He didn't answer right away. Unbidden, a vivid memory flashed through his mind—Virginia standing in the moonlight, her eyes impossibly cold, taking that deliberate half-step away from him.

"I won't. I promised I would cure you."

He lowered his eyes as he spoke, his thick lashes completely masking the storm of emotions swirling in his gaze.

After that night, Archer vanished from Virginia's life entirely, just like he had done five years ago.

Virginia carried on. She went to the clinic, picked Cindy up from school, cooked dinner, and read her medical journals. Her life fell right back into its flawless, uninterrupted rhythm.

One day passed, then two... A week, then two weeks.

Virginia had reached the point where she had almost completely forgotten about his existence. Then, the doorbell rang.

She had just finished bathing Cindy when a violent rainstorm suddenly tore through the city.

After carefully locking all the windows, she curled up on the sofa with the little girl, who was wrapped snugly in a fluffy towel, to watch cartoons.
