He had been wearing noise-canceling headphones while practicing a song and hadn’t heard the initial commotion. The second he pulled them off, he caught the faint sound of dog barking.

"Who forgot to leash their dog and let it come barking at someone else's front door?"

Miles closed the distance with long strides, aggressively pulling Virginia behind his back as he looked Liam up and down with utter disdain.

Liam frowned, sizing up the flashy, arrogant young man standing in front of him. "Who the hell are you? Do you honestly think you have the right to speak here?"

"What's the matter? Your master is having an episode, and instead of staying by her bed fetching her water and feeding her pills, you run over to my house to beg for attention? Does she even look at you?!"
