"Archer," Virginia called out, her voice slightly hoarse.

"Go to sleep. I'm right here." Sensing the stiffness in her body, he tightened his hold slightly, his deep voice meant to soothe.

Just as a rare sense of peace settled over them, Virginia's phone on the nightstand lit up. It went dark, lit up again, and finally devolved into a chaotic, endless vibration.

Frowning, she pushed him away and scooted back an inch. Free from his embrace, she grabbed the phone.
