Virginia's expression remained perfectly composed. She simply gave a slight nod, sparing herself from even addressing her as "Mrs. Caldwell."

Helena set her teacup down and leisurely wiped her mouth with a napkin before glancing up at Madeline.

"Quite the coincidence indeed," Helena remarked smoothly. "Archer has been busy lately. He was worried Virginia would get bored at home, so he specifically asked me to bring her out for some fresh air."

Madeline let out a hollow laugh. "Archer really is so attentive to Virginia."

Chloe's grip on Madeline's arm tightened, a flash of pure hatred darting through her eyes.

But she masked it flawlessly in front of Helena.

"Of course he is," Helena said, taking Virginia's hand and patting it gently. "Shouldn't he be? Virginia is smart, thoughtful, and fiercely independent. If I had such a brilliant biological daughter, I'd wake up laughing in my sleep."

She practically pointed a finger at Madeline's face, scolding her for her utter lack of appreciation.

Madeline's face went through a myriad of colors, her forced smile completely disintegrating.

Chloe was fuming inside. She hated that Archer only had eyes for Virginia, and she hated that Helena treated Virginia with such high regard.

Catching the rapid shift in Madeline's mood and fearing an outburst, she quickly shook Madeline's arm in a display of affectionate innocence.

"Mom, I promised to pick out a new suit for Dad before we left. We should hurry. If we're late, someone else might snatch up that limited-edition piece. Then Dad will just start nagging me again..."

With that, she turned to Helena and Virginia, speaking sweetly. "Aunt Helena, Virginia, we won't interrupt your tea any longer. Mom, let's go."

She was doing it on purpose.
