His Wicked Obsession (Archer and Virginia) novel Chapter 310

Around eight-thirty, Archer noticed Cindy was getting sleepy. He offered to drive the two of them back to the South Hill villa, officially leaving Toby in Helena's care.

...

Two days later, at Cloudcrest Estate.

Helena sat on the sofa, methodically sipping from a delicate porcelain teacup.

She was dressed in an ivory silk loungewear set, her hair pinned back perfectly. Toby was right beside her, chatting away with a newly developed companion robot from the Vanderbilt Group.

Over the past two days, the boy had been smiling a lot more. The robot said something, and Toby burst into a fit of giggles.

That was the exact moment Madeline walked in.

She was wearing a dark purple silk dress and carrying a limited-edition Hermes bag. Her meticulously maintained face looked noticeably exhausted.

"Mrs. Vanderbilt," Madeline forced a tight smile. "I've come to take Toby home."

Helena didn't even look up. She set her teacup back down on the coffee table with a soft clink.

"Take him home?" Helena finally glanced at Toby and wiped her hands with a napkin, her tone dripping with disdain. "So Chloe can continue to beat him?"

Madeline's face stiffened, and her grip on her purse strap tightened. "Chloe had an episode... She normally adores Toby. Besides, I've already spoken to her. I'll personally take care of him from now on. I swear I won't let him get hurt again."

"Personally take care of him?" Helena finally looked her in the eye, her gaze filled with outright mockery. "Mrs. Caldwell, you couldn't even take care of your own biological daughter. Now you expect me to believe you can properly care for a grandson you don't even share blood with?"

Madeline's face went from pale to flushed, the veins popping on the hand gripping her purse.

"Mrs. Vanderbilt, Toby is Chloe's flesh and blood. Keeping him here indefinitely just isn't right on any level..."
