His Wicked Obsession (Archer and Virginia) novel Chapter 54

Virginia stared at his pleading face. After two seconds of silence, she finally caved.

"...Bring it in."

Cindy popped her little head out from the living room. The moment she spotted the round, white robot sitting in the box, her big dark eyes lit up like fireworks.

"Mommy! It's a wobot!"

Once the technicians finished the setup, they left with Zachary.

Cindy was already squatting excitedly in front of the machine, eagerly examining it. "What's youw name?"

The indicator light on top of the robot flashed, and a classic AI voice replied, "Hello, Master. I am Model 919. You can call me Nine."

"Nine! Nine!" Cindy practically danced with joy. "Can you sing?"

"I can. What would Master like to hear?"

"Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star!"

Nine began to play the song. Cindy twirled around, her dance moves entirely clumsy and out of rhythm, yet brimming with the pure, innocent magic of childhood.

Leaning against the entryway arch, Virginia watched them, her eyes crinkling and a soft smile touching her lips.

Fine. At least Cindy liked it.

...

Over the next few days, whenever Virginia had some free time, she'd casually chat with the robot. Slowly, she began to realize that Model 919 was far more intelligent than she had anticipated.

Not only did it adjust its conversational style based on who it was talking to, but it would occasionally drop a surprisingly human remark.

For example, one night while she was working late organizing patient files, she muttered aloud, "I'm so exhausted today."

Nine's indicator light pulsed, and it suddenly chimed in, "If you are tired, you should rest early. Work will never be finished."

Virginia looked up, amazed. "You're a robot, and you're telling me to take a break?"
