Hitched & Hitched Again: A Comedy of Marital Mayhem novel Chapter 1831

"I heard you turned the Bauer family upside down last night and made them bleed! You've got some nerve! Crossing them is a death wish on its own, but you actually marched into their territory to do it!"

"I know you're rich, but do you have any idea what kind of hell you've invited by crossing them?"

"Besides, you know exactly how much power I hold in the Golden Triangle. You could have just asked for my help. I would've handled it for you. Why risk your own neck?"

Tarquin stared at the man for a long time before his emotions finally settled into a cold, hard focus.

He signaled for his bodyguards to stand down, pulled his gaze away, and leaned back against the tree, smoking in utter silence.

The man kept talking.

"You've pushed the Bauers past the point of no return. They're going to come for your blood. But if I say no, they won't dare touch a single hair on your head!"

"Just say the word. Just one word, asking for my help, and I'll make this all go away!"

"I guarantee the Bauers will stay so far away from you they won't even breathe in your direction!"

Tarquin just took another drag of his cigarette, completely ignoring him.

The man stared at him in confusion.

"Weird. Why aren't you going crazy seeing me here?"

Tarquin continued smoking in silence, not offering a single syllable in response.

The man looked genuinely baffled.

"Don't you have a million things to say to me? Don't you want to interrogate me? Aren't you furious? Don't you want to throw a punch?"

Tarquin remained expressionless, leaning against the tree and smoking with chilling calm. He neither spoke nor looked in the man's direction.

It was as if the man was nothing more than thin air.

The man stared at him for a long moment. The arrogant smile slowly slipped from his face, replaced by a dark scowl of pure irritation.

He demanded, "What the hell is going through that head of yours? No surprise at seeing me? Even if you're not thrilled, you should at least be in shock!"

Tarquin remained silent.

The man's frown deepened. "Are you so broken up over Axel that you've lost your mind?"
