Chapter 126
HUNTER
I could still feel her mouth on me.
Hours had passed since I left her alone in the bedroom, and it hadn’t faded. The memory clung to me, unrelenting. I was huge, even for a Lycan. There had never been a woman brave enough to even try to swallow me.
But Kitty had knelt there like she already knew what she was doing.
My grip tightened around my burner phone before I forced myself to loosen it. It was my last one; there was no one else I trusted to go out to buy me another one.
My beast’s satisfaction swelled up in me, but I crushed it down. I would not make life-changing decisions based on how well Kitty sucked my cock. All the chaos in my head was just temporary.
She had to go.
I told myself that again, a little firmer that time.
Because no matter how badly my body reacted to her, no matter how easily she slid under my skin, she wouldn’t stay once she knew the truth.
I was going to kill her father.
The chaos returned in my mind, and I looked down at the paperwork on my desk. Work. I needed to work.
Clearing my throat, I dialled Tanner, and he answered on the first ring.
“Are you alright, Your Majesty?”
I almost laughed. Did I deserve that title? I’d considered handing the crown to someone else and disregarding my bloodline just because I’d found someone who could swallow cock.
“Fine,” I lied. “Is Elijah’s case closed?”
“Yes, but the source of his magic is still unidentified.”
my
Pressure built up behind my eyes. Elijah had died smiling, certain that I was about to meet my downfall. Whatever ‘grand finale’ he mentioned surely had to do with this. Our pack didn’t rely on covens, so whoever helped him was completely in the shadows. That magic hadn’t felt right. It felt dark. Forbidden.
I exhaled slowly, exhaustion sinking into my bones. There was always another case, always a threat looming over my head. Another power grab. Another reminder of why my parents hadn’t lived long.
And why the Lordswoods and I would always be on the opposite side.
I rubbed my temples and leaned back in my chair. I’d swept my office for bugs and scrubbed every inch clean again before I sat down, because Jasper still used my office as his own after my last warning.
“Check with the covens. There must have been some spikes of forbidden,” I said. “And send April and her family home with a team to keep watch.”
“Yes, Your Majesty,” Tanner said, and then I sensed his hesitation.
“What?”
A little boy stood beside it, admiring the tree, hands in his pockets. He was dressed in a suit, as most visitors did. I wondered who his parents were. Perhaps they were the ones the King and Queen were entertaining.
I stopped beside him and breathed deeply.
“Your Highness,” the boy said, stepping back from me and bowing.
“No need to be so formal,” I said, smiling at him.
He was curly-haired and pimply, his face suggesting he was no older than twelve or thirteen. He probably hadn’t shifted yet, but his alpha blood was undeniable. In a few years, my wolf would submit to his, despite my royal bloodline.
I looked away from him and suppressed that thought.
Happy thoughts only. Today was a good day.
“What’s your name, little boy? Are you here with your parents?” I asked.
Did my tone change to that annoying one adults used on babies? I cringed slightly when I saw the tick in-his jaw and the way his fists balled up. Even his grey eyes grew colder. His anger was almost like a slap on my cold cheeks. Weird. He must have been too young to start learning how to control himself. It was more important for alphas, considering how much damage even their auras could do to weaker wolves.
