Heat exploded in my core. One second, I was spiralling, the next, I was soaked, as if a switch had been flipped without my
consent.
The emotional whiplash cleared my head just enough for me to take in Nathan’s playroom. Heat crawled up my cheeks, the same way it had the first time I’d stumbled in here. The room was massive, but the dim lighting softened it, made it feel intimate, rather than obscene.
My gaze dragged over the details. Easy to clean surfaces. Soft padding. Equipment lining the walls and hanging from the ceiling. Some of it was a mystery, but other pieces were easy to guess. Like the contraption with the mechanical cock.
My panties were soaked through. That thing inside me-that part of me that always pushed Hunter to the edge-reared up, right alongside my wolf, who was always greedy for him.
What would it be like to have Hunter push me to my limits in this room?
I spun back to him, caught the flash of his eyes and the flare of his nostrils, and remembered his words.
It was the moon.
Everything was heightened.
There was no way I actually wanted Hunter to wreck me in Nathan’s sex room. It was inappropriate. Reckless.
Dangerous.
That thought snapped something into place. I bolted past him and out of the room, ignoring the throbbing between my legs. Sex was a distraction we absolutely did not need right now. It would be far too easy for our enemies to slip in if my mind were lost to Hunter. Too easy for April to get us.
I wouldn’t be thinking about the Lycan King with Hunter’s cock filling me up.
I squeezed my thighs together and glanced back at the doorway. Hunter stood frozen, his hands curled tight at his sides. I felt his restraint through the bond, but this time, it wasn’t about Nathan. It was about me.
About ripping my clothes off and stuffing me full. About chaining me up to that swing. About pleasuring me until I forgot everything else.
I knew that because the unfiltered bond was merciless. I saw it all-his wants, his fantasies, his certainty-like reading a picture book. All this man wanted was me. To be with me. To love me. To build a life that I didn’t dare want yet.
I knew it was the moon’s pull. He’d gone from fury over the prophecy to this, as if the other things didn’t matter.
So it was up to me to keep us focused.
I rushed up the nearest stairway without looking back. If I stayed away from the temptation, I could think clearly. Make a plan. Maybe Nathan had another property where he could take April if they were so determined to protect her.
Soft voices drifted to me as I reached the top. I’d never been to this wing of the house, but April’s scent was everywhere. April, her parents, and Nathan. This had to be their rooms. I stretched my senses outwards, scanning the whole house. The agents were still downstairs. And Hunter was behind me, moving slowly.
Hunting.
My body shivered. My focus betrayed me again, locking onto Hunter’s heartbeat. It was racing, just like mine.

There were still three days until the full moon. How bad would this get? I’d never fully understood the buildup to that frenzy. Every month, like clockwork, it was the same. The short tempers. People sneaking off to fuck. Then, after the run, everything would be calm, as if it never happened. They burnt out all the tension in one night.
I didn’t feel the way I had when I went into heat, but Goddess, my whole body was wired.
“You need to stay in your room, just until I figure things out.”
Nathan’s voice snapped my attention back to April.
Waiting things out sounded reasonable if we didn’t have the spy in our midst. I stormed down the hall to the door that stood open and stopped short. Nathan’s hands rested on April’s shoulders as he spoke softly, like she was a frightened omega. The look he’d given her at the castle surfaced in my mind. Was he interested in April? Was that why he was taking her side?
But she was with the enemy!
My chest rumbled.
Nathan jerked towards the doorway, surprise flickering across his face.
“Kathrine,” he said carefully, slowly lowering his hands. “You need to calm down.”
I was calm. I was the only one thinking clearly.
“You’re bonded to a powerful Lycan,” he continued. “One who will do exactly as you command. He’s your deadliest weapon. Think this through. If there is bloodshed, then who will be the catalyst?”
That stopped me. Our bond meant Hunter would protect me, but what if there were two people he felt compelled to protect? My head was still spinning, and a distant part of me whispered that I was being unreasonable, but I ignored it.
“It’s your first moon,” Nathan said. “You’ll need time to adjust.”
Hunter appeared at the end of the hallway. My focus returned to that tension in his body. To the tent at the front of his sweats. A weapon, one I could wield without restrictions. One I could unleash.
“I will fix this, Kathrine,” Nathan hissed, his tone urgent.
His shoulders had tensed, and April trembled visibly behind him.
“I know exactly what to do,” he continued. “Calm your wolf. Please.”
