Chapter 205
The werewolf stiffened.
“I wouldn’t be so presumptuous-”
“What I do,” I said quietly, “and where I do it, is not your concern.”
“It becomes my concern when supernatural instability threatens us all.”
“And it becomes your mistake when you forget who you’re speaking to,” I said.

Like most werewolf alphas, he preferred pretending I didn’t exist, but that luxury was over. I could no longer ignore such disrespect. Things were about to get dangerous; I didn’t have time for small threats.
The temperature dipped. Bronson’s fear trickled into the air, just a sliver of it, as his eyes darted around, sensing the threat but unsure where it was coming from. Magic warmed my blood as my beast edged forward. Power bled into the room, and the lights flickered. Papers shifted on the desk as the pressure in the room thickened.
“You… This is…” Bronson stuttered as he took a step back.
Let him come for me if his balls were big enough.
“I don’t answer to you.” I growled. My vision sharpened, locking onto the pulse at his throat. My beast’s eyes. If Bronson had any sense, he wouldn’t provoke me again.
“You’re already off this case,” I continued. “Why are you still monitoring an investigation I’m in charge of?”
“There’s new information, Your Majesty,” Bronson said quickly, lowering his head. “There are photographs circulating. A white wolf. I’m guessing they’re the cause-”
My focus sharpened. “What photographs?”
“We’ve had four or five so far that have already moved through two internal channels. It was a separate investigation until the surges.”
Shit. Someone was pushing this.
“Where did you get them?”
“Anonymous reporting. That’s why you should have been here.”
My beast surged again, irritated by this blatant challenge, and I let it. Power rolled outwards in a controlled wave, cracking the glass paperweight on my desk and forcing Bronson half a step back before he caught himself. The air vibrated with restrained violence.
“You seem confused,” I said. “Let me correct that”
His eyes flashed, but he didn’t lift his head.
“I own this Bureau,” I continued. “It’s not because of paperwork, it’s because every creature in this building knows who the fuck I am. I built this place.”
The pressure deepened. Magic roared in my blood, and the windows darkened slightly. I sensed the shadows behind me. Bronson’s eyes widened, and he finally shifted his weight, his instincts forcing his wolf to submit
There it was. A flash of fear, and then recognition.

You’re my subordinate,” I said. “You’re not my equal.”
The silence stretched, and his wolf retreated so far back I couldn’t feel it anymore.
So tell me again,” I added quietly. “Who sent the photographs?”

Someone inside the building,” Bronson replied. “We’re still trying to trace them, but they know how to hide from our ystems.”
So the threat was internal. That simplified things. I could fix it before it got leaked too far. But I didn’t want Bronson inywhere near the investigation; he’d be the first to demand a hunt.
pulled my phone out of my pocket and dialled Tanner.
Lock down internal communications,” I ordered. “And monitor every external transmission.”
We’re escalating it?” Tanner asked.
Yes.”
Bronson’s gaze snapped up. Lockdown meant total control, and I’d do it without hesitation. Kitty came first. The sky was alling, but I’d hold it up myself.

oom.
Stay away from this investigation,” I said, my voice deeper as the command rolled across the room.
Bronson tensed, lowering his head again as his fear finally saturated the room.
Yes, Your Majesty,” he bit out.
Get the fuck out.”
de turned and left without another word, and when the door closed behind him, I pulled my shadows back and masked nyself again. The room warmed and lightened immediately.
The bond flickered faintly at the edge of my awareness. It was Kitty. Between last night and this morning, she’d grown tronger again. Relief filled my chest, but it was short-lived. When she didn’t need me anymore, she’d realise exactly how much control she had over me.
The phone on my desk rang, pulling me out of that thought, and I picked it up without looking at the number.
“Where is my daughter, Your Majesty?”
The man didn’t bother with pleasantries, and my title was edged with mockery. My fist tightened as rage filled me.
“What do you want?”
“There are reports of packs and covens mobilising and crossing to the human world,” Christos said “They don’t like that I made her my heir.”
Or they already knew she was a white wolf. The storm was coming faster than expected. It wouldn’t just reach her, it was coming for all of us. Would she be ready?
