Chapter 210

The moment my teeth left her skin, I knew there was no going back. I’d just dropped myself into the lowest level of hell. The bond was cemented. It had settled, permanently, snapping into place inside me. I felt it anchoring her to me, threading through every part of my mind until the line where I ended and she began became impossible to draw. Kitty was mine, but instead of the warmth I expected, the connection cooled. The distance between us had become insurmountable.
I’d fucked up.
Again.
It had taken a while for my cock to soften, but the moment it had, Kitty stood and walked back around the desk to her clothes. We’d fucked that hard, but only our bottom halves were bare.
She didn’t say a word, she didn’t even look at me. She touched her neck, her fingers trembling slightly as she brushed the forming mark. I felt every sensation mirrored through the bond. The heat, the soreness, and her shock. Every part of me was tuned to her breathing, her heartbeat, and the subtle shifts in her magic.
Her emotions pressed against me, but they were not chaotic like before. They were controlled. Deliberately restrained. She would never be able to shut me out again, but this felt much worse. She had pulled away from me.
I’d seen a few rejected bonds in my time and read enough cases, so I knew the risks. The consequences would have been worse than her losing control when her magic had been unstable. But saying it now wouldn’t change anything, because my betrayal cut her deep, deeper than logic.
But that pulsing bond was the only indication of how much I’d messed this up. There was no anger. Anger would have meant she still cared for me.
My chest tightened, but I didn’t take my eyes off her. Her face was expressionless as she calmly pulled her jeans back on without bothering to clean up. The second she stepped out of my office, everyone would know what we’d just done. And they would see that mark peeking from the collar of her leather jacket.
They would come for her, attack her from all angles. Bronson would be the first on her case. The instinct to protect her was stronger now because of the mark.
She walked to the door and paused.
“Don’t contact me again,” she said without looking back.
And then she was gone,
But she was mine. Always mine. That dark part of me celebrated right along with my beast. The part that would and had done anything to keep her with me.
Someone knocked urgently on my door. I looked down at my limp cock. My knees still felt weak, and I hadn’t stopped trembling. My beast had been drained, and he’d retreated somewhere I couldn’t control him. The marking had been different this time. I’d assumed the magic and my beast had already merged before, but this felt more complete. I couldn’t even differentiate between the two. What new surprises would this marking bring?
I inhaled and leaned back in my chair. My office smelled like sex and Kitty. There was no way I would allow anyone to walk
‘Your Majesty, are you alright?” Tanner asked in my mind.

‘I’m fine,’ I lied.

‘The alarms were restored, but we’ve evacuated everyone. The agents from National Security insisted on coming up to see you. I’ve made them wait in the waiting room.”
Bronson was already on the case.
I dragged a hand over my tired face and sighed. I’d put out one fire at a time, because the bigger one was still to come. Perhaps at that time, Kitty would understand why rejection wasn’t an option.
‘I won’t see anyone now. Not until I’d showered and washed Kitty’s scent off me.
‘Bronson is insisting. I’m sure he knows more than he’s told us.’
Definitely. Christos’ news wouldn’t be a secret. Bronson had networks everywhere. He’d know why and who.
‘He can wait.’
I pushed up, still a little wobbly on my feet. The first time I’d marked Kitty, we’d both needed time to recover, but I didn’t have the luxury this time. Especially since I’d already spent so long buried inside her while the Bureau fell apart.
Dragging my feet to my private bathroom took more out of me than I wanted to admit. The quick shower I took didn’t do much to hide Kitty’s scent, and honestly, I didn’t want to. But I’d put a target on her back so I couldn’t be reckless when I wasn’t in peak form.
With a fresh suit on, I stepped out of the office. I froze at the sight that met me. Cracked walls, screens hanging off the brackets, and glass from the exploded light bulbs on the marble floor. It was worse than the night at Malcolm’s cabin, but I hadn’t felt any of it.
I straightened my tie and walked down the hallway to the waiting room. Bronson and the other two executives of his department whispered amongst themselves like they didn’t know I could hear them from the hallway. When I walked in, they stood and bowed.
“Your Majesty,” they said in unison.
I crossed the room to sit, more because I was still weak than any power move. Bronson’s resentment was clearer now. I didn’t even need to guess just how much he loathed me.
“This incident set off all the alarms on our systems,” Bronson said. “People were injured. You can’t continue to sit on it anymore.”
“If there really is a white wolf among us, you can’t handle this alone,” the old vampire, Ashworth, said quietly.
He was always calm, like he’d seen all of this before. And he was more respectful than the werewolf.
“You’ve taken over this investigation, but by all accounts, you’ve left it at a standstill.” Bronson said, an edge in his voice, He was pushing his luck and knew it. I’d already warned him.
Jones, the Lycan I’d personally chosen as my person in the National Security department, stepped forward.
“Sir, if there is a white wolf, then protocol says we have to call the Council,” he said, his head still bowed.
Jones knew very well that there was a white wolf. He was part of my pack. But the link between us was clear: there was no guilt or malice in him. He knew what Kitty had done to save us. He knew who his queen was. I was willing to trust him, just as I’d trusted the pack to protect her because she was ours.
“Then I guess we have to call the Council,” I said calmly.

Chapter 210
Bronson’s head snapped up. His anger flared for a moment before he remembered to mask it.

“Your Majesty, you’re being very calm about this,” he said. “We’re dealing with a national-level threat; we may have to call a lockdown. There’s someone among us who’s too dangerous to be let loose.”
The magic warmed my blood, and the room began to darken. Shadows spilt out of me and formed into wolves, snarling as they crawled across the floor. Bronson paled and staggered back, and that satisfying fear saturated the room. I’d bet everything I owed that he’d see my little shadows in his nightmares.
“There is someone dangerous among us,” I said as I stood. “You keep forgetting that. Perhaps it’s time you went home to rest, and I hired someone who understands who the fuck I am.”
Jones and Ashworth didn’t even blink, but Bronson backed away until he fell on his ass. I watched him scramble back until he hit the wall. Watched fear morph his face as the two shadows inched closer until they were face to face with him.
“The investigation is still mine. The Bureau is still on lockdown,” I growled. “If you think I’m too dangerous, then lock me up if you dare.”
My shadows pulled back and disappeared as if they hadn’t existed. Then I nodded to the two men who were still standing and left the room.
If it was Bronson targeting my queen, then I hoped my message was clear. Kitty and I were one and the same. If he came at her in any way, I wouldn’t stop myself.
