I Choose Him, Your Worst Enemy novel Chapter 202

Wynette noticed her friend clutching her phone like she'd been hypnotized.

Curiosity got the better of her, and she leaned in.

Who on earth had put that look on Joanne's face?

Joanne killed the chat window and shook her head. "Nothing. Looking at nothing."

She was absolutely not telling Wynette about her situation with a certain baby-faced college boy.

If Adriel found out, she'd be dead.

It wasn't like she'd meant to corrupt an innocent young man.

It's just...

That not-so-innocent young man had serious game.

He was absolutely electric.

Joanne reasoned with herself: she wasn't ready for a relationship right now, but spending time with someone nice and maybe throwing some money his way wasn't unreasonable.

The boy was adorable. She was starting to genuinely enjoy his company.

Having a sweet little puppy around to keep her spirits up? Nothing wrong with that.

The more she thought about it, the more it made sense.

She'd go home tonight and have a proper conversation with him.

As long as feelings weren't involved, he could have as much money as he wanted.

She just needed him for emotional maintenance.

Done. Decision made!

Joanne was already grinning to herself.

Wynette stared at her friend's goofy smile and had so many questions.

This was the face of someone with nothing going on?

The woman was practically vibrating. Her mind was clearly somewhere else entirely.

And Joanne's heart really had flown far away.

Near the end of the dinner, Joanne said a quick goodbye to Wynette and practically sprinted out.

Adriel, one hand in his pocket, the other resting on Wynette's waist, watched his sister's bouncing stride and said in that low voice of his, "Did something finally happen with that girl?"

"Spring has sprung, nature awakens, and the little kitten's in heat," Gavin chimed in, hijacking the metaphor.

The words were barely out before Adriel's foot connected with his shin. "Get lost. You're the one in heat. One more word and I'm having you neutered."

Every word dripped with disgust.

Who taught this man to speak?

Somebody should confiscate his mouth.

Gavin had seen the kick coming and dodged. "Wynette! Control your man!"

Wynette had long since become immune to Gavin's yelp for help.

She just smiled. "I can't control him. Maybe talk less?"

If this joker weren't so cheeky, Adriel wouldn't want to kick him all the time.

Then again, with Gavin around, things were never boring.

Jamie stood to the side, thoroughly entertained.

Gavin drifted over and clapped him on the shoulder. "Don't laugh at my expense."

Jamie only laughed harder.

Which annoyed Gavin further.

But he let it go and turned to Adriel. "Relax. Joanne's not the type to let anyone take advantage of her. She just cut off one deadbeat. She's not going to fall for the next scam that easily."

As Adriel's sister, Joanne was part of Gavin's circle, too. He knew her well enough.

Even so, Adriel wasn't entirely reassured.

He'd need to have a proper talk with Joanne soon.

He knew Dominic and Avessa had been hounding Joanne lately.

And there was only one reason: blind dates.

Dominic and Avessa wanted Joanne matched with someone from a suitable family.

Dominic had handpicked every candidate himself.
