I Fought for His Future. Now I’m Fighting for Myself novel Chapter 12

Sean's bloodshot eyes glinted dangerously as his grip tightened.

His voice came out through gritted teeth. "You didn't just drive Charlotte away, you even killed my child. And now you have the nerve to stand her and expect me to continue submitting to you?"

The crushing pressure on Kylie's throat stole all the air from her lungs.

Howard cried, "Don't do this, Dr. Johannson! Someone help! Dr. Lundberg's not going to make it!"

He'd been standing awkwardly nearby before rushing over to pull Sean away. However, it was impossible for him to stop Sean, who was like a raging bull.

Howard could only shout desperately for help toward the crowd at the proposal site.

Kylie's eyes were already rolling back by the time the others heard and came running. Aghast, they pried Sean off her with great effort.

She collapsed, tears streaming down her face as she gasped for air.

Realizing how she'd just turn into a spectacle, Kylie bolted up from the ground and slapped Sean hard across the face. "Do you think you're some noble lover now, Sean? Who are you trying to impress with that act?

"You're the one who cheated first! Don't tell me you're not relieved when you first find out the child was deformed!"

It was as if one slap wasn't enough to quench her fury. She swung again and cried, "If you really loved Charlotte so much, then why'd you come running the second I crooked a finger at you?"

Held back by the crowd, Sean could only gasp for breath. He wanted to argue back, but every word she said hit exactly where it hurt most, choking off his voice.

Kylie's excitement grew as her gaze glinted with dark satisfaction. "Are you sure you're mad because I drove Charlotte away or I killed your child? You're mad because I tore off that pretty little mask of yours in front of everyone!"

She shot him a cold glance before speaking confidently, "I'd like to see how long that backbone of yours would last. If the deputy director's seat doesn't interest you anymore, maybe you shouldn't even bother keeping the head of neurosurgery's as well."

With that, Kylie turned on her heel and strode away.

Their colleagues stared at each other, shocked at how what was supposed to be a marriage proposal had turned into an absolute train wreck.

In that haze, he seemed to see Charlotte from years ago. Back then, they were surrounded and beaten by a gang of thugs. Their faces were twisted in anger as they swarmed toward him.

Sean instinctively stepped back, swallowing nervously out of fear.

Just as a long bat came whistling down, a shadow flashed across his vision, and he heard the sharp crack of bones breaking and a muffled groan. Charlotte had thrown herself in front of Sean.

The pain had drained all color from her face, yet her arms remained stretched wide, as if shielding him beneath her wings.

That single act of protection seemed to last forever, until the distant wail of police sirens drew near.

"Don't be afraid, Sean. I'll be here to protect you." Charlotte's voice broke at the end, and his gaze wavered upon seeing the splattering of her blood.

But now, she was gone. And Kylie, who claimed to love him to madness, was only cowering in her own car, too scared to even breathe.
