“Which doesn’t change anything,” Margo interrupted. “If anything, it made their bond stronger. She visited him every single day for three years. Every day, Celine. Rain, snow, dangerous conditions-she was there. Taking care of him. Searching for cures. Giving him everything.”

“And now?” Celine asked quietly.

“And now people are talking,” Margo said. “Really talking. About how wrong it all went. How Kael should

should have given Ivory a chance to cure him before bonding with

this whole mess with Luna Aria might actually be the push everyone

needed to see what was obvious all along.”

“What do you mean?”

“I mean Jason is out there right now,” Margo said, and I could hear the satisfaction in her voice. “Out with Marcus, supposedly searching for this alleged intruder that Luna Aria claims attacked Ivory. Which means he’s out of the way No complications. No romantic rival.”

“Romantic rival for whom?”

“For Kael and Ivory, obviously.” Margo sounded like she was explaining something to a child. “Look, all Ivory needs now is to recover her memory-all those years with Kael, all that history they shared. Or maybe…” She paused dramatically. “Maybe just a kiss from Kael. Something to remind her body what her mind has forgotten. To reignite what was always there.”

“Margo, that’s-”

“Or hear me out,” Margo continued, clearly on a roll now, “maybe they need something more dramatic. Something to break through all these complicated feelings and political situations. Like… I don’t know, a threesome or something. Luna Aria, Kael, and Ivory all working through their issues in the most direct way possible.”

“Margo!” Celine’s voice was scandalized. “That’s completely inappropriate. And also, Luna Aria is sitting right there.”

There was a moment of silence as both maids seemed to suddenly remember my presence. I felt their eyes on me, saw in my peripheral vision how they turned to look at where I sat in

the corner.

I kept my expression carefully neutral, though internally I was screaming. Kept my hands. folded calmly in my lap though I wanted to throw something. Kept my voice even though

rage

and hurt were burning through me.

“Are you finished with your duties?” I asked, my one flat and emotionless.

“I-yes, Luna Aria,” Celine stammered, clearly mortified at having been caught.

Margo, however, showed no such embarrassment. If anything, she looked pleased that I’d heard. Like she’d been hoping for exactly that outcome.

“We’ll leave you to your dinner,” Celine said quickly, already moving toward the door.

“Actually,” I said, and something in my voice made them both freeze. “Margo, you’re dismissed. Permanently. Pack your things and report to Elder Morrison for reassignment. I no longer require your services.”

Margo’s face went white, then red. “You can’t-”

“I can,” I said, my voice quiet but carrying absolute authority. “I’m still Luna of this pack, regardless of current circumstances. And I don’t need maids who spend their time spreading gossip and making inappropriate speculations about their Alpha’s private life. You’re dismissed. Now.”

Margo looked like she wanted to argue, but something in my expression must have convinced her otherwise. She dropped a mocking curtsy and swept out of the room, slamming the

Oor behind her.

Celine stood frozen, clearly terrified she was about to receive the same treatment.

“Celine,” I said, my voice softening slightly. “You’re a good worker and you’ve always been professional with me. But I need to know-do you share Margo’s views? Do you believe I attacked Ivory?”,

Celine bit her lip, struggling with how to answer. “I… I don’t know what to believe, Luna Aria. The situation looks very suspicious. But I also can’t imagine why you would do such a thing. You’ve never shown any signs of violence. You’ve been trying so hard to find your place here.”

“Thank you for your honesty,” I said. “You can stay. But Celine, I need you to understand something. I didn’t attack Ivory. I saw someone in the trees. I tried to save her. And the fact that no one believes me, the fact that my own maids are fantasizing about my mate reuniting with another woman-that’s not just inappropriate. It’s cruel.”

“I’m sorry,” Celine said quietly, and she actually sounded like she meant it. “You’re right. We were being cruel. I was being cruel. I let Margo’s dramatic storytelling carry me away and I

“Thank you,” I said, surprised by her genuine contrition. “You can go. I’d like to be alone now.”

Celine nodded and left quickly, closing the door much more gently than Margo had. I heard her exchange words with the guards outside, then her footsteps fading down the corridor.

And then I was alone again. Truly alone, with nothing but my thoughts and the echoes of what I’d just overheard.

*Ivory is my woman. Anyone who touches her will meet the same fate.*

Kael had said that. Had declared Ivory his in front of the entire pack. Had killed for her. Had proven through the most violent means possible that he considered her under his protection -or more than that. His possession.

And everyone had known. Everyone had seen their relationship, had understood what they were to each other, even if it was never formally acknowledged.

No wonder the pack had been so shocked when Kael bonded with me instead. No wonder they saw me as an interloper, a mistake, a political inconvenience that had disrupted what should have been.
