**TITLE: I Left Before He Learned My Worth**
**Chapter 58**
**ARIA**
As the guards moved to escort Damon out of the chamber, I felt a strange tension in the air. The atmosphere was thick with unspoken words and unresolved emotions. As they guided him past me, he leaned in, his breath warm against my ear, and whispered with a conviction that sent shivers down my spine.
“This isn’t over, Aria. We have a bond—not the formal kind, perhaps, but something far deeper. You will feel it eventually. You’ll come to realize you made the wrong choice. And when that moment arrives, I will be waiting.”
I felt a pang in my chest, a mixture of anger and pity. “Don’t wait,” I replied softly, my voice steady despite the turmoil inside me. “Move on. Seek genuine happiness instead of clinging to this twisted obsession. Let me go, Damon. For both our sakes.”
He fell silent, allowing the guards to pull him away without further protest. I watched him retreat, my heart a storm of conflicting emotions—relief, sadness, and a haunting sense of grief for the man I once believed he was. The weight of our shared history pressed down on me, heavy and suffocating.
When I turned back to face the chamber, I was met with the gaze of the entire assembly. Kael’s expression was a blend of pride and concern, his brow slightly furrowed as if he was gauging my emotional state. Nina, standing beside him, wore a quiet smile of satisfaction, while Ivory, still at the back and supported by Eliza, offered me a barely perceptible nod—not quite approval, but perhaps a sign of acknowledgment for my stand.
“Luna Aria,” Alpha Morrison addressed me, his tone formal yet tinged with curiosity. “Before we proceed with our deliberations, is there anything further you wish to express regarding this matter?”
I paused, weighing my thoughts. There was so much I could articulate—about the intricate web of pack law, the sacredness of bonding ceremonies, and the critical need to hold Alphas accountable for their actions. Yet, in that moment, I chose simplicity.
“Alpha Cross has violated multiple pack laws and endangered innocent lives in his reckless pursuit of something he had no right to claim. Whatever decision the council reaches, I trust it will send a clear message: this kind of behavior—this blatant disregard for boundaries, consent, and basic decency—will not be tolerated in our territories. We are meant to be civilized beings, to respect one another’s choices and rights. Alpha Cross has done neither, and he deserves consequences that reflect the gravity of his actions.”
Morrison nodded slowly, his expression contemplative. “Thank you, Luna Aria. The council will now deliberate. This session is recessed for one hour.”
With a firm bang of the gavel, the formal proceedings came to a halt. Instantly, the chamber erupted into a flurry of conversation as the observers began to discuss the events they had just witnessed. I made my way back to Kael and Nina, feeling an overwhelming exhaustion wash over me from the emotional toll of what had just transpired.
Kael enveloped me in his arms the moment I reached him, and I surrendered to his warmth, allowing myself to lean into him. Through our bond, I could sense his emotions—pride in my strength, relief that I had made my stance clear, and an undercurrent of love that seemed to deepen with each passing day, even though we had yet to voice those feelings aloud.
“You were incredible,” he murmured, his breath stirring my hair. “You were strong, clear, and absolutely right about everything.”
“I merely spoke the truth,” I replied, my voice muffled against his chest. “About him, about us, about what truly matters.”
I contemplated Sera—brilliant, strategic, and pragmatic Sera, who had never allowed emotions to cloud her judgment. “She doesn’t desire war. She seeks leverage. Her hope is that the threat will persuade the council to be lenient, to secure Damon’s release with minimal repercussions. But she’s astute enough to understand that if this escalates to actual combat, Blackwood will be at a disadvantage. They’re already weakened due to Damon’s mismanagement.”
“So, do we call her bluff?” Nina inquired, her eyes sharp with determination.
“We offer her an out,” I corrected gently. “We allow the council to make their ruling, and then we present Sera with a way to accept it without appearing weak. Perhaps we could propose a formal alliance between Shadowmere and Blackwood once she assumes leadership. Or trade agreements that would benefit both packs. Something that enables her to tell her pack she negotiated the best possible outcome from a difficult situation.”
Kael looked at me with a mix of admiration and surprise. “You’ve really thought this through.”
“I had ample time to reflect while we were preparing for the council meeting,” I admitted, my heart racing with the weight of the moment. “Sera isn’t my friend, and she certainly wasn’t kind to me during my time in Blackwood. But she’s not the enemy either. She’s simply trying to navigate an impossible situation created by her mate’s instability. If we can assist her while safeguarding our own interests, everyone stands to gain.”
“Except Damon,” Nina pointed out, her tone matter-of-fact.
“Except Damon,” I conceded. “But honestly? He brought this upon himself. Every choice he made, every boundary he crossed, every person he harmed—those were his decisions. And now he must confront the consequences.”
