Her eyes, once vacant and unfocused, suddenly sparked to life, a flicker of recognition igniting within them. I observed as awareness washed over her, her mind grappling with the reality of her surroundings, piecing together the fragments of what had just transpired—why there were hands pinning her down, why she felt so disoriented.
“Wha—” The word emerged from her lips, a mere whisper, barely audible. “What happened?”
“You poisoned yourself,” Eliza stated, her tone stark and unwavering. “You were experimenting with toxins in the herb garden. We found you unconscious, completely unresponsive. I just administered your emergency antidotes, and while they seem to have worked, they nearly stopped your heart in the process.”
Ivory’s gaze flitted around the room, absorbing the concerned faces hovering above her, the sterile environment of the clinic, and the fact that Kael was the one gripping her arm. A fleeting expression crossed her features—was it pain, or perhaps embarrassment?—and she instinctively pulled away from his hold.
“Let me go,” she insisted, her voice gaining strength though it remained raspy. “I can sit up.”
We released her gently, poised to catch her should she falter. Yet, with a determined effort, Ivory managed to push herself into a sitting position, although her arms quivered from the exertion. Now more aware, she scanned the clinic, her healer’s instincts kicking in as she noted the other occupied stations.
“The healers who were attacked this morning,” Eliza explained, following her line of sight. “Four are injured, two in critical condition. They were gathering herbs when a group of rogues ambushed them.”
“Symptoms?” Ivory inquired immediately, her tone shifting to one of professional urgency despite her own frail state.
“Severe lacerations, potential internal injuries, significant blood loss, shock,” Eliza listed off, her voice steady. “We’ve managed to stabilize them, but the two critical patients remain unconscious. I’m worried about—”
“Give them the antidote,” Ivory interjected, her voice sharp and commanding. “The same compound you just used on me, but in smaller doses—perhaps a quarter of what you administered to me. Their bodies are in shock, instinctively shutting down to protect vital organs. The antidote will jolt their systems awake, providing the energy needed for healing.”
Eliza hesitated, uncertainty flickering across her face. “Ivory, that antidote nearly stopped your heart. The risk—”
“Is worth it if it saves their lives,” Ivory finished resolutely. “Trust me. I designed these compounds specifically for emergencies like this—when the body requires a forced restart. Just keep the dosage low and monitor their cardiac response. If their heart rates spike too high, you can counteract with—” She named another medication, one I didn’t recognize.
“Are you certain about this?” Eliza pressed, concern etched in her features.
