Chapter 12
Aurora’s POV
The color drained from Phoebe’s face.
Her mouth opened, like a fish gasping for air.
“No!” she cried, “Are you crazy? Do you want Connor’s love so much that you start to daydream now? Connor despises you. Everybody knows that The only reason he sticks with you for years is because you saved him once and was taking advantage of his gratitude-”
I cut her off. “Then why don’t you go ask him? See whom he really cares about?”
“I don’t need to ask him,” she said sharply. “Just look how many times I managed to drag him away from your bonding ceremony.”
I let out a sneer. And she wasn’t done prove her point.
“Just face the truth, Aurora,” she said, her voice rising to almost a shriek.
Everyone loves me-your parents, your friends, and Connor! You stole my life in the Upper District, and this is what you get!”
I shrugged. “You think you’re getting back at me, but the truth? You’re the pitiful one here. Just think about it. When Connor realizes that using you can’t even make me angry, what do you think he’ll do? Walk away? Abandon you?”
Her face went white, then red, then white again.
“No,” she whispered. “No, that’s not. He chose me. He’d never leave.”

Chapter 2
“You are really that certain? How about we find out?” I smiled.
Behind us, I heard the sound of footsteps-quick, urgent steps coming down the hall stairs.
Connor must have left the party to come looking for us.
And Phoebe, being Phoebe, immediately seized on the opportunity for more drama.
She let out a piercing scream and threw herself backward. She tumbled down the three steps and kept rolling and landed hard on the ground.
The old me would be horrified. I would cry out for help and rush to check her. But no matter how kind I was, she would just twist it into me feeling guilty.
So this time, I stood at the top of the stairs and did nothing. I just watched her wincing and groaning like a clown.
“Aurora!” she cried out, as if I’d somehow pushed her. “Why-why would you do that?”
Connor came running, just as Phoebe’s known he would.
He rushed down the steps and picked her up in his arms. His face was written with concern and anger.
“What happened? Y-You pushed her?” he asked urgently, looking between Phoebe and me. “What did you do to your sister, Aurora?”
I let out soft chuckle. “Do you care about what I have to say, Connor? Or are you already convinced that I’m the guilty one?”
His face was tense. Then Phoebe started sobbing. She buried her face onto his shoulder, crying so hard that her whole-body shake.

Chapter 2
“She…she pushed me…” she choked. “I was worried she’d be upset about losing the challenge, so I came out to check on her. But she was still angry at you for kissing me in front of everyone, so…she pushed me!”
She was so immersed in her performance that she didn’t notice Connor’s
reaction.
He frowned and pulled back slightly from her face covered in shot and tears, a flicker of disgust crossing his eyes.
He clearly couldn’t stand Phoebe.
So, I decided to conduct one final test.
“Connor,” I said abruptly, “I’m going to make you an offer.”
“What? Are you going to apologize to your sister?” he asked tensely.
