I Rejected My Obsessive Werebeast novel Chapter 55

Chapter 55

Aurora’s POV

The media visit was scheduled for three o’clock in the reception room at the placement center.

Three local outlets showed up. A camera crew from the city news channel, a photographer from a regional paper, and a freelancer with a recorder and too many questions. The topic was the foundation’s beastman children relief program safe ground, wellrehearsed.

Kane handled it like he’d done this a hundred times.

He shared what he was willing to sharea name, a number, a brief story about one of the kids, always without any identifying details. When the questions got too specific, he pulled back with a small smile and a polite answer that gave them nothing useful.

I sat beside him with my notebook open, taking notes as the reporters occasionally turned to me with questions about the media partnership and the foundation’s public outreach plans. I kept my answers brief and professional, careful not to say anything that could be taken out of context.

An hour and a half was all it took.

Kane shook hands with the last reporter at the door. Nodded at the centers director. Then he turned to me.

Back to the hotel?

Yeah.

Kane dropped his jacket on the armrest. Asked if I wanted anything. I said. water. He poured himself whiskey.

We didn’t talk much.

He sat in the armchair by the window. I sat on the sofa. The city lights

were starting to come on outside amber dots scattered across the

skyline.

I set up the recording equipment on the coffee table. Checked the levels. Hit record. The red light blinked once, then held steady.

Kane watched me do it. Didn’t say anything.

I pulled out my notebook. Flipped to the questions I’d prepared.

Ready?

He nodded. Leaned back. Crossed one ankle over his knee.

I started with the easy stuff.

When did he found the foundation? What was the initial funding source? How many children had been placed in the first year?
