Chapter 10

Meg cornered the boss right before we left the apartment.

She tilted her face up to him and demanded he provoke her, insisting that her white dress was too meek to

intimidate the monsters downstairs.

The boss tapped her head playfully. He told her to focus on being happy, assuring her that no one would dare

touch me while he was around.

Bernard stroked his freshly stitched stomach with visible pride.

He chimed in, threatening to rip his intestines out again and leave a bloody mess on our neighbors’ porch if

they caused any trouble.

Eleanor adjusted the cucumber slices on her skeletal face and dampened their spirits.

She cited the Blissful Manor bylaws, reminding everyone they were prohibited from escorting their

daughter-in-law downstairs for the next three days.

The three monstrosities deflated instantly.

Only the boss remained undeterred, his dark eyes spinning in their sockets. An idea seemed to strike him.

He abruptly ripped his own head off. Reaching deep into the ragged stump of his neck, his fingers fumbled

until they grasped a hilt.

He heaved against the resistance, slowly extracting a massive, rusted butcher’s cleaver. Dark energy smoked

The man approached and gently placed the cleaver in my hands. He whispered that as long as I held it, I

would be untouchable.

He was the strongest entity in Blissful Manor. If this blade could sever his head, it would easily decapitate

anything downstairs.

The system voice suddenly chimed in my ear. It was a private broadcast meant only for me.

[Congratulations! You have acquired the SSSSS-rank item: Cleaver of Devotion.]

I could barely breathe. I never imagined he would go to such lengths for my sake.

Victims hate the instruments of their death. Yet he held this cursed thing inside him, and offered it to me like a sacred gift.

The chat feed, however, went absolutely ballistic.

[Holy shit! The cleaver that decapitated the boss is a god-tier artifact!]

[This is broken! How does a Rank-S dungeon spawn a 5S-rank item for a total rookie?]

[Look at this turmoil. The apex guild leaders just joined the live stream to scout her. Alice is going straight to

the top, and I am officially salty.]

Meg refused to be outdone by her father. She rummaged through the wardrobe until she found a pristine

white dress, then charged straight toward the blade in my hand.

Perhaps fueled by sheer terror, both Meg and the garment instantly turned a violent shade of crimson.

She tossed the dress toward me. It materialized on my body in a flash, resizing perfectly to hug my frame.

Meg wrapped her arms around my waist and nuzzled me. She murmured that it was her death-day dress,
