Hearing that name again gave me pause.

It had been six or seven years since anyone had called me Emma

I turned to look at Caleb beside me and saw that he, too, was back to being twelve years

The teenage boy stood at the top of the stairs in a neatly tailored suit.

eyes shone with excitement. One hand still held lightly onto ray arin

I frowned and yanked my arm away.

Caleb froze, staring at me in confusion.

Emma, what’s wrong?

Just then, the front door of the Lancaster Estate slowly swung open.

My parentsvoices reached me.

Caleb, Emma, come on! We’ve brought Sophie home!

Caleb’s eyes lit up, and without second thought, he dashed down the stairs, leaving me behind.

I stood at the top of the staircase, watching the happy reunion of the four of them below.

I put a hand over my chest. It felt strange.

A warm, tingling feeling spread through me. The sharp pain I used to feel was gone.
