I Stopped Loving Him When He Let Me Bleed Out novel Chapter 478

His eyes were pitch black—a total, dead void devoid of any emotion or light.

That terrifyingly blank stare gutted her worse than any screaming match ever could.

Rage, at the very least, proved he still cared enough to feel something.

But looking at her now, it was as if he had simply resigned himself to a crushing inevitability.

He had resigned himself to her being perpetually "busy," accepting that he would always be tossed to the back of the line.

That hollow, defeated acceptance was the absolute last thing she ever wanted to see on his face.

"I am so sorry for breaking my promise. This case just means everything to me," Sienna pleaded, refusing to break eye contact. "I don't know how to make you understand. When I said I wanted to be there with you and Maeve, I meant it with every fiber of my being. But the entire investigation hinges on this one meeting, and Isaac is..."

"I completely understand," Finn cut her off smoothly. "Your career takes priority."

His tone was perfectly level, matching the frighteningly blank canvas of his face.

A vicious, stabbing pain ripped through Sienna's chest.

That wasn't what she meant at all.

She never said his trauma wasn't important.

But an overwhelming sense of helplessness swallowed her whole; she had already made her choice, and no amount of frantic backtracking could undo the damage.

Her shoulders completely slumped, her voice dropping to a defeated whisper.

"Alright. Either way, I broke my word, and I am so deeply sorry."

Finn offered no response.

He simply looked down, mechanically lifting a bite of food to his mouth and chewing in agonizing, robotic silence.

Sienna stared blankly at her own plate, her appetite entirely obliterated. She forced herself to take a single bite, chewing it like ash before forcing it down and dropping her silverware.

"I'm done," she murmured.

Finn grunted in acknowledgment, pushing his own half-eaten meal away.

He grabbed his phone and slid out of the booth.

"I'll drive you home."

The drive back was suffocating, the silence infinitely heavier than before.

An icy blast of AC hit her directly in the face, and she adjusted the vent, redirecting the bitter air.
