The living room plunged into a suffocating, dead silence. Finn didn't wait for Maeve to formulate a defense; he violently snatched the fruit basket from Sienna's hands, slammed it onto the entryway console, and grabbed her wrist.
"We're leaving."
He dragged Sienna down the hallway and straight out of the building.
It wasn't until they were safely locked inside the Bentley that she finally spoke.
"Finn, the entire point of this morning was to try and mend fences with her."
Finn's eyes were still storming with raw, untamed fury.
"Every single word she spat out made my skin crawl. I refuse to compromise my own sanity just to play out some pathetic, manufactured fantasy of a happy family. It's sickeningly fake."
Sienna wisely let the subject die right there.
She had zero intention of judging the catastrophic wreckage of his relationship with Maeve; that was a war only a mother and son could fight. As an outsider, stepping into that minefield would only cause more damage, so she kept her mouth shut.
She smoothly pivoted the conversation.
"The intel Isaac handed over is absolutely explosive. I'm going to spend tonight tearing through the documents and drafting a bulletproof report. I'll pitch it to Director Huntington on Monday morning and demand a formal warrant. The chain of evidence is flawless now; this case is a guaranteed slaughter."
Finn looked at her, his rigid jaw finally unclinching the second she confidently declared a guaranteed slaughter.
He grabbed her hand, pressing a deeply affectionate kiss to her knuckles.
"My baby is an absolute powerhouse."
Sienna violently snatched her hand back.
"You are being disgustingly cheesy."
Finn completely ignored the insult.
"I think it's an incredibly fitting title. You should start taking notes."
Monday morning at ten sharp, Director Huntington summoned Sienna into her office.
The notoriously icy director was vibrating with an entirely different kind of energy today.
The second Sienna walked in, the praise started flowing.
"I reviewed your email. The evidence is utterly ironclad, and your logic is razor-sharp. Outstanding work. It's painfully obvious you sacrificed your entire weekend to build this case, and I genuinely appreciate the dedication."
Sienna accepted the praise with flawless humility.
"It's my job. I just wanted to ensure I justified the massive amount of trust you placed in me."
Director Huntington was immensely satisfied. She boldly signed her name across the official investigation warrant and slid it across the desk.
