Zachary choked on his words, pausing before finally speaking.
"I just figured that if we were together, it would be the natural next step. Once we're married, we'll be starting a family. You can't exactly work grueling ER shifts while pregnant, right?"
Sienna replied coldly,
"That is your assumption, not mine. You didn't even bother to discuss it with me, and you certainly have no right to make career decisions on my behalf."
The atmosphere turned completely toxic.
Zachary's pride took a hit, and his tone darkened.
"If I made you uncomfortable, I'm sorry. But everything I'm doing is to build a practical future for the two of us."
Anger flared wildly in Sienna's chest.
She always felt like there was an invisible wall between her and Zachary, and at this exact moment, she finally saw it clearly.
They were fundamentally incompatible.
At her age, she absolutely refused to settle just because someone seemed "good enough."
She stood up, politely inclining her head to his parents.
"I am so sorry, but I really don't think I am a good fit for your family. Please excuse me."
With that, she grabbed her purse and turned to leave.
The moment she stepped out the door, she nearly slammed into someone.
Chloe.
The two women locked eyes.
Chloe wore an ambiguous, taunting smirk.
She swept her gaze up and down Sienna's body, assessing her like a piece of meat on clearance, checking to see if the defeated loser had finally cracked.
Sienna could practically smell her sickening superiority complex.
She didn't stop; she just pushed right past Chloe without a second glance.
Chloe's smile slowly eroded into a scowl as she watched Sienna's back disappear.
Seconds later, Zachary sprinted out the door, his face livid as he rushed past Chloe to give chase.
Chloe looked up and saw Finn staring down from the second floor.
His eyes were locked onto the exact path Sienna had taken, swirling with an intense, raw emotion Chloe had never seen before.
