Chapter 15
Georgia’s POV
I grabbed my phone from the nightstand and handed it to him. “Call your security team.”

To give him some privacy, I slipped into the bathroom and quietly closed the door, leaning against it with a heavy sigh. I made a point not to eavesdrop; whatever his life entailed, it was his business, not mine.
The minutes ticked by. I waited, expecting him to call out or knock when he was done. After what felt like an eternity, I realized it had been completely silent for a while. A strange feeling crept over me.
Finally, after nearly ten minutes had passed, I cautiously opened the bathroom door.
The room was empty.
My phone was placed neatly in the center of the bed, the screen dark. He was gone.
And he had just left, without a word, without a goodbye Hmm. He’s a jerk!
Sleep was impossible after that. As soon as the sun was up, I checked out of the hotel. The building was calm, with no sign of the chaos from the night before; just staff going about their normal day. It was as if nothing had happened.
I hailed a cab and rode back to the villa in a daze. When I walked in, I found Fatima sipping tea in the living room, a smug look already on her face.
“Well, well, Georgia, it’s already morning!” she scoffed, her voice

I gave her a smile that was all teeth. “Don’t worry, Fatima. There are only two weeks left. Soon enough, Lucas will be completely free to marry his mistress.”
“Her name is Kiara,” Fatima corrected, a dreamy look in her eyes. “And I must say, I like her so much more than you.”
“Oh, I can tell,” I said, my voice syrupy sweet with sarcasm. “The ‘motherly’ affection you have for her is practically radiating off you. It’s truly touching.”
Without waiting for a reply, I turned and walked up the stairs, closing my bedroom door firmly behind me. My relief at escaping her was cut short when I saw a figure standing by the window.
It was Lucas, already dressed in a pristine suit. He turned to face me, his expression not one of concern, but of cold accusation.
“Where were you last night?” he demanded, his eyes scanning my clothes from the day before. “You didn’t sleep here.”
“Yes, I’m aware of that,” I replied, my voice flat with exhaustion. All I wanted to do was crawl into bed and sleep for a week.
“That doesn’t answer my question,” he pressed, taking a step closer. “Where were you?”
I met his accusatory gaze with one of my own. “And where were you? Spending the night with your ‘friend’
Kiara?”

“That’s ridiculous,” he snapped. “Don’t deflect. I asked you a question.”

“And don’t you dare use that defensive tone with me, Lucas,” I said, walking to the door and holding it open. “We both know what you’ve been doing. Now, please leave. It’s too early in the morning for this, and frankly, I’m tired of looking at your face.”
He stared at me, his expression a mixture of shock and disbelief. “I can’t believe you’ve turned into this person.”
“Oh, me too,” I said with a tired, humorless laugh. “I cant believe it either.”
Frustrated and clearly out of his depth, he turned on his heel and stormed out of the room without another word.
The next day, I went to Smith Armories to see Patricia. The whole place was buzzing with energy. She was ecstatic, overseeing a large shipment.
“We’re delivering the first prototypes to the Salvatores and the Morettis today!” she said, beaming. “They’ll be the first families to test the new tech.” Then she shoved a tablet into my hands. “And by the way, you work here now. You’re hired. No buts. Come help me.”
I scoffed and laughed. “Are you serious? You couldn’t stand seeing your best friend unemployed for one more day?”
“I’m not wasting your talent,” she said matter-of-factly. You’re a charming marketing genius. Without you, I wouldn’t have secured the deal with Salvatore. And speaking of him, today’s Friday. I’m meeting him to sign the papers, and you’re coming with me.”
“Huh? Me?”
“Yes, you,” she deadpanned. “There’s no one else here, is there?”
And just like that, I found myself in the sleek, imposing lobby of the Salvatore Group headquarters. Patricia was led into a large conference room to finalize the contract, but just as I was about to follow, Estevan’s secretary approached me.
“Ms. Sinclair,” she said politely. “Mr. Salvatore would like to see you in his office.”
My mouth fell open. Me?
Patricia gave me a sharp nudge with her elbow. “Just go, she whispered, giving me an encouraging shove.

Estevan was seated behind a large desk, looking completely unscathed, as if the chaotic, blood-soaked night in my hotel room had never happened. He looked up, and I had to swallow hard against the lump forming in my throat..
“Yes?” I asked, a bit too informally.
“Thank you for saving my life that night,” he began, his voice low and direct. “Name your price. Any gift, any favor. Whatever you want, I’ll give it to you.”
Well, that was straight to the point. I definitely didn’t expect that.

I took a hesitant step toward his desk, swallowing hard. I didn’t want anything from him. The pressure to come up with a request was suddenly immense. What on earth could I possibly ask for?
