I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 196

His words were met with a scornful, mocking laugh. We were talking past each other. He was about to fly off to be with another woman, yet he was still threatening me, telling me to be a good girl and come home. And from the sound of it, he expected me to be waiting in his bed when he got back.

What a scumbag. A thousand times worse than in my past life.

I pried his fingers off my wrist, one by one. This time, he didn’t resist. I looked him straight in the eye, a sweet, gentle smile on my face.

“You, my dear man, are a real piece of work. Be careful juggling two women at once; you might just drown. Oh, and don’t forget to wear a lightning rod when you go out. I’d hate for you to get struck by lightning. A charred corpse is not a good look. I might throw up.”

Steven and I parted on bad terms.

I went home and carefully arranged my mother’s heirlooms. Eleven of the twelve zodiac animals were now accounted for. Only the dragon was missing.

I gazed at my mother’s photograph, my fingers gently tracing her face. A wave of longing washed over me, and my eyes welled up, but I didn’t cry. My heart was filled with a cold, hard hatred.

“Mom, I will get back every single piece of the dowry you gave me.”

“And I will get revenge for you. I will make those two suffer for what they did to you.”

In my past life, I had felt betrayed when I found out about my father’s affair with my Janice. My anger had been all-consuming, but my revenge had been limited to wanting to see them bankrupt.

In this life, my goal had been to ruin their reputations, to make them outcasts. But after my confrontation with Antonia, I realized that wasn’t enough. Not nearly enough.

The wicked are always far more cruel than ordinary people can imagine.

I clenched my fists, struggling to contain the rage that boiled within me, the blood rushing in my ears. My gaze was glacial.

I laughed and played the last one. “Zephyra, where the hell are you, you ungrateful brat?! I’ve already ordered catering, so don’t bother cooking. I ask you to do one simple thing, and you play dead. How dare you pull this on my birthday! Get over here with Steven, right now. And stop this nonsense. If you don’t show up today, don’t ever bother coming back to this house again!”

My smile widened, but my eyes were like chips of ice. I sent him a text.

*Okay. Be there soon.*

Today was the day I would get my revenge on all of them.

First my father, then Steven. No one was escaping today.
