Steven!
My eyes widened as I ripped the shower curtain away from my face. It really was him.
His handsome face was flushed from the alcohol, but his expression was grim, his gaze sharp and hostile.
“What are you doing here?” I gasped. “I thought you went to my room to rest.”
“Took a wrong turn. Lucky for me, I did,” Steven said, trapping me completely between his body and the wall. He braced one hand beside my head, the other still gripping my wrist. He leaned in closer, his eyes like chips of ice. “Planning on making a fool out of me, were you?”
It made sense that Steven wouldn't know his way around my house; he'd never even been to my room before. I accepted his explanation quickly.
But his next words made me frown. “No, I’m here to take care of some business.”
His expression grew even darker. “And what kind of ‘business’ requires you to be in this room, about to get into bed with that man?”
“…”
My frown deepened. There was still a creep waiting outside the bathroom door, and he chose now to pick a fight?
“It’s none of your business. I have things to do, so you need to leave.”
Steven loosened his tie and rolled up his sleeves. Despite his flushed face, a cold sneer formed on his lips.
“Leave? So you and your lover can have the room to yourselves? Do I look that stupid to you?”
I could tell he wasn't in his right mind. Just as I was about to say something, a knock came from the other side of the door.
The man outside called, “Ms. Jones, what are you doing in there? I thought I heard you talking to someone.”
I snapped back to the present and looked at Steven. “You don’t have to eat pork to know what a pig looks like. Now, I really have to deal with this. There’s a loose panel over there that leads out. You need to crawl through it and go.”
This was my house. I knew every nook and cranny. My mother and I used to clean it together constantly. No matter where Janice led me, I was confident I could escape. I used to crawl through that hole all the time when we played hide-and-seek.
That had been my plan all along—get out and grab a tool.
His expression darkened several shades, but a thin smile remained on his lips as he cupped my chin.
“I’m the one catching you in the act, and you want me to crawl through a doggy door?”
“It’s not really a doggy door,” I said. “It’s just a hole we made a while back. We’re not allowed to have dogs. Right now, it’s the only way out of this room without being seen. You can’t be discovered, so get going—mmph!”
Before I could finish, his lips crashed down on mine. My eyes flew open in shock, my heart pounding. I pressed my hands against his chest, trying to push him away, but he grabbed my wrists, his grip like iron. I couldn’t cry out without the man outside hearing, so I was forced to tilt my head back and endure his kiss, digging my fingers into his waist.
