I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 216

Rachel sounded even more conflicted. “But this way, you won’t get the settlement you wanted, will you?”

“It’s fine. I’ve made up for it elsewhere. I can’t win against Steven, and frankly, I’m tired of fighting him. As long as I get the divorce, that’s all that matters.”

Rachel sighed. “Alright, whatever makes you happy. Was Steven furious when he saw the news? Did he get violent?”

I subconsciously pressed my lips together, deciding not to mention the kiss he’d forced on me in his rage.

“He knew right away the woman in the video wasn’t me. He was angry, of course, but he has enough self-control not to get physical.”

Steven had only ever been rough with me in bed during our past life, and even then, it had felt more like a malicious form of punishment than passion.

“He knew it wasn’t you at a glance?” Rachel’s voice was full of disbelief. “I only believed it wasn’t you because I trust your character. That video was so blurry I couldn’t tell a thing. How did he know?”

I was wondering the same thing. Rachel’s voice took on a strange tone. “Honey, I’m starting to think Steven is into you. He knows you better than I do. Either he’s seen your body and knows it intimately, or… but you two never, you know…”

I frowned. “Sometimes I think that too. But it’s impossible. He could never like me.”

My heart clenched, and a strange, chilling fear crept over me. I shook my head, tapping it lightly. “You’re overthinking things,” I muttered.

Steven couldn’t have been reborn. If he had been, he would have kicked me out on the spot to clear the way for Verna. And given how much I antagonized him in our past life, he hated me. If he had been reborn, he would have made my life a living hell by now, not be acting like this—losing his temper and kissing me.

“Let’s not talk about this. I’m divorcing him tomorrow. Speculating now won’t change a thing.”

Rachel refocused. “You’re right. Just stay far away from him and live your own happy life. But if it turns out he really has fallen for you, it would be pretty satisfying to see him suffer a little.”
