I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 241

I looked up at Steven’s slightly furrowed brow. He was clearly displeased that I had pushed him away, but I was even more annoyed. I struggled against his grip, swatting at his hand.

“What are you doing, hugging me in public? Let go.”

He was one of the organizers; so many eyes were on him. Being seen with him would attract unwanted attention.

We had kept our marriage a secret for this long, and we were about to get a divorce. I didn’t want to be exposed now.

Steven didn’t let go. In fact, his handsome face grew colder. “We’re not divorced yet. Is it illegal to hug my wife in public?”

I couldn’t break free. I glared at him. “Are you trying to cause trouble for me?”

He tightened his grip on my waist and pulled me into a secluded corner, pinning me against the cool wall.

“Is this better?”

“…”

I told him to let go, and this was his solution. I was starting to feel like Steven was becoming more and more unreasonable.

Thankfully, no one seemed to have noticed us, so I didn’t bother arguing.

He stood before me, his expression grim, his thin lips pressed into a hard line. He looked like I owed him a million dollars.

“What do you want?”

Steven looked down at me. “I’ve been hearing rumors. Did you get into some trouble?”

“You believe rumors? As you can see, I’m perfectly fine,” I said dismissively, then shot him a sideways glance. “Weren’t you supposed to be judging? How do you have time to listen to gossip about me?”

Wasn’t he a man of immense importance, busy as a head of state? Since when did he have time to meddle in my affairs?

Steven sneered. “You were bickering with a group of people and then got publicly humiliated by some ugly guy. You were embarrassing me. It was hard to miss.”

“…He’s not that ugly.”

“Zephyra, you’re a fascinating woman. You’re all smiles and laughter with everyone else, but with me, it’s nothing but daggers. Do I really disgust you that much?”

I stared at him in disbelief. “Are you blind? It’s not just disgust. My face is practically screaming ‘stay away from me.’ The farther you get, the bet—mmph??”

Before I could finish, Steven’s long fingers clamped over my mouth, pinching my lips together.

“Swallow those unpleasant words. I’ll pretend I didn’t hear them.”

My eyes widened in a furious glare. I scrambled to pull his hand away, but his grip was perfectly controlled—not tight enough to hurt, but impossible to break free from.

Damn it. He was the one who asked the question, and now he was upset with my answer.

His expression was dark. He loosened his grip slightly, his voice cool as he finally got to his real reason for finding me.

“I did some digging. Horace is indeed Somania’s manager. You’re always with him, so you must know a lot. What’s your connection to Somania? Are you friends?”

My heart skipped a beat. I suddenly remembered the nonsense I’d spouted on the night I was drunk. Steven was relentless in his pursuit of Somania, investigating her every move. What did he want with me? And why was I so confused?
