I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 243

Steven promised the money would be transferred to my account as soon as he met her. Naturally, I agreed without hesitation.

He turned to leave but paused after a few steps. With his back to me, his voice was low and detached.

“Zephyra, you still have one day and two nights. There’s still time to have regrets.”

With that cryptic statement, he walked away.

I was completely baffled, muttering to myself, “Regrets? Regret what?”

Regretting the divorce? Seriously? Even now, he thought this was all some game of push-and-pull, and that I’d eventually come crawling back?

Suddenly, I remembered what he’d said before his trip.

—“I’ll only be gone for two days. We’ll get divorced when I get back. Unless you beg me not to, there will be no more changes.”—

So, Steven was waiting for me to beg him to stop the divorce? He was in for a major disappointment.

I puffed my cheeks, pressed my lips together firmly, and shook my head. I walked back to my little corner to wait for the afternoon competition.

The afternoon session moved much more quickly. The panel of esteemed judges sat at the front, with Steven in his prominent position as the sponsor. Contestants took the stage one after another, a steady stream of talent and nerves.

York stayed by my side. Linda’s turn was before mine, and he should have been with her, but he’d said, “She’s a bully, and I can’t stand it. Besides, Myron told us to stick with you and prioritize your needs. She refused, so what happens to her is none of my business.”

Linda shot York a disdainful look. “If she wanted to drop out, do you think your precious Mr. Taylor could stop her? You talk too much. A gold digger like her isn’t on my team anyway. What’s there to unite?”

York was speechless. I glanced at Linda’s smug face and let out a lazy laugh, sipping my yogurt drink.

“If you’re so talented, you should let your skills do the talking and crush me. Why are you always trying to get me to quit?”

A cold glint flashed in Linda’s eyes. “Because some people are shameless enough to use connections to get ahead. Who knows what tricks you’ll pull in a legitimate competition.”

Ah, I see. Linda thought I was sleeping with Steven. The Lancaster family was the sponsor, and the power of money could turn black into white. She was worried I had an unfair advantage. No wonder she’d sent Jonas to convince me to drop out.

But Steven was more impartial than anyone. The day he’d play favorites for me would be the day the sky fell.
