I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 331

“Okay.” Ryan obediently agreed. I reached for my phone. Last night, I’d dreamed that Steven had taken it, but now it was lying right beside me, and I finally felt at ease.

“Looks like it was just a dream after all…”

When I first got this second chance, I used to daydream all the time, wishing Steven loved me so I could make him taste the bitterness of unrequited love, to make him suffer just like I had.

But on the day we divorced, he’d said—

“There’s nothing I can’t have, only things I don’t want. Zephyra, if I ever regret divorcing you, you’re in for a world of trouble.”

And I had to admit, he had a point.

Steven wasn't an ordinary man. He was rich, talented, and powerful, a scion of a great family and a business legend in his own right. Not even thirty, his accumulated wealth was already staggering. His path forward would only get smoother and more formidable.

Since all I wanted was to live my own life, protect my family, build my career, and wrest control of the company from my cheating father, I had no desire for revenge against Steven. There was no point in provoking him.

Provoking him was more terrifying than provoking anyone else. Verna was a perfect cautionary tale. He was obsessive and ruthless, and being the object of his attention was no blessing.

It wasn't that I was too weak to fight him; it was that his luck, his strength, and his destiny were just too powerful. He was the absolute head of the Lancaster family. Unless I was willing to pit the entire Lopez family against him, I didn't stand a chance.

But why should I be so selfish? The Lopez family owed me nothing. Leaning on them for a little help was one thing, but asking them to risk everything against another super-rich family wasn't just selfish; it was malicious.

Besides, my grievance with Steven in my past life was simply that he didn't love me and I had shamelessly clung to him. There was no need for a life-or-death struggle.

It was best if we were strangers. He'd better not get any funny ideas, because I really couldn't give him what he wanted.

I sent a message to Rachel, briefly explaining my situation. If it was confirmed to be the flu, I’d probably have to wait a few days before seeing Horace Spencer.

Ryan called a family doctor for me. After a blood test, the doctor said, “Ms. Jones does indeed have influenza. This illness really wears you down and can cause a fever for several days. Luckily, she took some targeted medication early on. Just continue with that. The first few days will be tough, but once the fever breaks, she’ll start to recover.”

Ryan looked confused. “My sister took some cold and flu powder. Is that a targeted medication?”

The doctor was surprised. “She only took cold medicine? Looking at her white blood cell count, it shouldn’t just be from that. That medicine has no effect on influenza A… But it doesn't matter. The specific drug is Oseltamivir. I’ve prepared it for you.”

“Just follow the instructions on the bottle. Make sure she eats, no matter how little she wants to. The medication can have side effects for people with sensitive stomachs, possibly causing nausea.”

Ryan took note of everything. After seeing the doctor out, he turned back to me.

“You heard all that, right?”
