I listened to Mrs. Lancaster's tearful accusations with a placid expression.
She had disliked me for a long time. In the past, because I loved Steven, I had endured all her accusations and fabrications, always choosing to keep the peace and never complaining to him. As a result, she never made such a public scene.
Now that I was fighting back at every turn, she was so furious that she would challenge me even in a setting like this. I was curious to see how Steven would stand up for his dear old mother.
Before Steven could respond, Ryan pulled me behind him. He was younger than me, but much taller, and his frame completely shielded me.
“You malicious woman. You were the one provoking and insulting her from the start, and now you have the nerve to play the victim. The older you get, the more disgusting you become.”
Mrs. Lancaster’s face stiffened at the insult, and she glared at Ryan. “You little brat—”
“That’s enough.” Steven raised a hand slightly. He wore an expensive watch, and his custom-made Italian trench coat was perfectly tailored, making him look tall, handsome, noble, and refined.
The gaze from his dark eyes slowly shifted to Ryan and me. The powerful aura he exuded, his mature and reserved demeanor, was something a college kid like Ryan couldn't compare to.
“If you want me to get you justice, then you should talk less.”
Mrs. Lancaster was clearly a little afraid of him. She bit her lip and sobbed, “Fine, I won't say another word. You have to get back at them for me, you hear? Otherwise, I’ll never be able to show my face again. I’ve never been humiliated like this in my entire life, and it’s all because of your wife.”
Steven remained expressionless, his hand in his pocket. “I understand.”
Ryan, still acting like a protective guard dog, stared straight at Steven.
“Let me tell you, as long as I’m here, you won’t lay a finger on her.”
Mrs. Lancaster’s face turned black with rage. “Steven, do you see that? Your precious wife has been having an affair for who knows how long! The Lancaster family has strict principles; we’ve never had such a scandal. If you don’t teach this adulterous pair a lesson, you’ll never be able to hold your head high again!”
I crossed my arms, my eyes cold as I looked at Mrs. Lancaster. “All you do is spew filth. You call us an adulterous pair, but where’s your proof? Be careful, or I’ll sue you for defamation!”
Ryan chimed in, “Exactly! And let me tell you, the Lopez family isn’t one to be trifled with. If you say one more word, I’m calling the police. Let’s see who they arrest!”
Mrs. Lancaster was furious, but she suddenly caught a key phrase. “The Lopez family?”
The wealthy woman beside her whispered, “The Lopez family is that prestigious family I told you about. Their business empire might not be as vast as the Lancasters', and they’re not as aggressive in business, but they’re all highly respected. You can’t even find information on what the eldest son does!”
“The second son is in business, and the youngest is a Go master, a famous… I forget his name, but they say he alone can shake the entire Go world. He’s represented the country in competitions. Not just the elites here, but international figures all have to show him respect!”
