I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 360

The other was a handsome young man in a sharp suit. His eyes were staring straight at me, his face devoid of expression, yet seemingly hiding an infinite coldness.

Steven.

Looking at his expressionless face, I felt a strange chill in my heart, and for some reason, I couldn’t meet his eyes. He always accused me of rebounding too quickly, and now I had handed him the perfect ammunition. He must be furious right now. I hoped he wouldn't do anything suffocating.

I quickly pulled my gaze away and looked at Rachel.

She said something to the foreign man and then walked towards us, her pretty face tense.

Mrs. Spencer smiled lightly. “Rachel, I didn’t expect you so soon. We were just on our way to buy some food. Why don’t you take your boss upstairs first? Zephyra and I will be back shortly.”

“Okay, I’ll just have a quick word with Zephyra and then take them up.” Rachel nodded with a smile, then linked her arm with mine and whispered in my ear, “I didn’t bring bastard Steven here. Hugh and Horace are chess friends. I think they met during Horace’s recovery and got along well. He insisted on visiting after hearing Horace was injured.”

“And he insisted on dragging bastard Steven along. I tried to talk him out of it, but bastard Steven agreed so readily that I couldn’t stop them.”

“We just got out of the car. We didn’t hear anything else you said, just the very last part.”

The last part, which was that Horace and I were a couple, and that I was willing to marry him.

What a coincidence for Steven to hear that. Even Horace hadn’t heard it, but he did.

“It’s fine. We’re divorced. He has no say even if I marry Horace. You don’t have to tiptoe around him for my sake.” Although I wanted nothing more to do with Steven, there was no reason to be afraid of him.

My expression remained calm. I patted Rachel’s hand and smiled. “You should go on up to the room. Horace is by himself right now.”

Rachel stared at me for a moment, biting her lip as if she wanted to say something, but in the end, she just brushed her hair back.

“Alright. We’ll talk later when we both have time.”

She handled the situation with grace, not prying any further, and politely invited Hugh into the hospital to visit Horace.

As Hugh passed me, his deep blue eyes were filled with amusement and surprise.

“I’ve seen you before. You’re the girl in the photo from Horace’s wallet. Congratulations to you two, a happy ending at last.”

He didn't lower his voice, so everyone present heard him, including Steven.

I could feel the gaze on me growing colder. My brow twitched, but I didn’t look in Steven’s direction. Instead, I smiled politely at Hugh’s handsome, foreign face. “Thank you.”

I took a deep breath, cursing myself for being so spineless. Fine, I couldn’t afford to provoke him. I’d just have to avoid him as much as possible from now on.

I called Ryan and told him not to come over for now, as the hospital room was getting too crowded.

He whined dramatically, and I had to laugh. “How about I treat you to a big dinner tonight? Just bear with it for lunch, okay?”

Ryan happily agreed.

Mrs. Spencer and I bought some local specialties and a few signature dishes from a nearby restaurant.

While we waited for our order, Mrs. Spencer sat beside me and suddenly spoke.

“Mr. Lancaster is very handsome. He seems quite cold and difficult to get along with, but he has an air of authority. He must be a successful businessman.”

That was true. The time Steven spent on love was far less than the time he spent on work.

Out of thirty days in a month, he was only willing to spare a few for love. The rest of his time was almost entirely dedicated to business. As the head of a powerful family, he was incredibly hardworking and ambitious, constantly making more and more money. He was, indeed, a very successful businessman.
