I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 366

I was afraid of what a drunk madman might do, so I tried my best to reason with him. But Steven’s aggressive stance infuriated me. A person can only be pushed so far. He was forcefully kissing me and trying to control my life. What right did he have?

Who was he trying to impress with this high-and-mighty attitude?

My eyes were defiant. “I won't break up with him. Not only that, I'm going to marry him. Steven, don't push me too far. If you dare touch me, I'll drag you down with me.”

So what if he was rich? The law applied to everyone. If he laid a hand on me, I might not be able to stop him now, but afterward, I would make sure he went to prison.

“You really want to marry him,” Steven’s dark face turned glacial, a suffocating pressure building in his chest.

He stared into my eyes, jealousy and rage flaring. “What is he? Why do you like him? How is he better than me?”

“Steven, I suggest you don't humiliate yourself,” I sneered, pushing against him with all my might. I was so angry that I didn't immediately register that he was comparing himself to Horace. “In what way is Horace not better than you?”

“He's kinder, more considerate, more decent, and he knows how to respect people. He's also younger and more charming than you. Have you ever bothered to find out how many girls are crazy about him? A man like you, with your vicious tongue, has nothing but a handsome face and a fortune. No one around you truly loves you.”

Even Verna didn't love him. Verna loved Jacob. He'd only managed to get her by force.

Steven’s flawless, handsome face grew even darker, his grip on me tightening.

I felt like my bones were about to shatter, but I gritted my teeth and held firm.

“Why are you so obsessed with me? Just because I moved on before you did? Does being with Horace hurt your fragile little ego? You don't have to look. Why are you so fixated on your ex-wife's life?”

“What do you think it is?” Steven's ink-black eyes bored into mine, the smell of alcohol thick in the air. His voice was a mix of sarcasm, resentment, and a gritted-teeth hatred. “Zephyra, what reason could possibly make me tolerate you for so long?”

He tolerated me? Wasn't it the other way around?

I was furious, but when I saw the look on his face, my heart suddenly lurched. He was so close, his cheeks flushed from the alcohol, his jaw tight. But the look in his eyes... it was one of utter grievance.

It was a sight to behold. I had never seen the famously composed, self-possessed, and heartless man look so vulnerable. The words slipped out before I could stop them.

In just a few seconds, my mind was a chaotic storm of emotions. It felt like the blood in my veins had frozen. I immediately denied it.

“Impossible. You can't possibly like me. You're just drunk and talking nonsense. Let me go! I want to go home!”

Maybe it was because I had stopped chasing after him that he felt unsettled. Or perhaps my sudden change in personality had piqued his interest. He was just pretending to be deeply in love, as if he couldn't live without me.

In reality, it was just his possessiveness acting up. He couldn't stand the thought of me and Horace truly being happy together, so he was going to great lengths to cause trouble. It was laughable. I knew what he was like when he loved a woman. It wasn't this brutal. It was giving her the world, pampering her completely. I wouldn't believe a single word he said.

Veins bulged on Steven's forehead, his breathing ragged. I struggled in his arms, and in his anger, he bent down and captured my lips. I pounded on him in a rage, managing to gasp out a warning, “Mmph, I'm... Horace's, mmph, girlfriend now!”

That sentence seemed to enrage him even more. He suddenly swept me up into his arms and tossed me onto the soft sofa.

“You're wrong. You can only ever be my woman.”

I sank into the cushions. Before I could sit up, he was on top of me, one hand pinning my waist while the other tore at my disheveled clothes.
