Steven frowned but said nothing.
I was stunned and quickly tried to refuse. "Grandpa, this is too much. I can't accept this money. Steven and I are already divorced."
Grandpa had always looked out for me, and most of his money was tied up in Aether Studio; his liquid assets were limited. For him to give me a billion now was a testament to his affection for me.
But Mr. Lancaster Sr. simply tucked the bank card into my pocket. "The Lancaster family handled this poorly from the start. Your marriage ended up this way because that brat Steven did something wrong. And for him to treat you so badly during a divorce... I can't stand by and watch. You take the money. You deserve it."
"As for this kid, I will definitely teach him a lesson. But since he's in a sorry state today, I'll let him off for now. Once he's better, I'll beat him right back into the hospital to help you let off some steam, okay?"
He said this last part loudly, clearly for Steven's benefit.
Steven's face darkened. "Grandpa."
Mr. Lancaster Sr. slammed his cane on the floor. "Quiet! Don't you call me Grandpa. Don't force me to whip you when I'm in such a good mood."
Steven pressed his lips together and fell silent.
I couldn't help but smile, looking gratefully at Mr. Lancaster Sr. "Thank you, Grandpa. In that case, I won't be polite."
Mr. Lancaster Sr. beamed. "Good, good."
Ryan was also pleased, leaning in to whisper in my ear.
"Zephyra, this old man really has your back. I like him. A thousand times better than Steven!"
Then, he smugly shot Steven a provocative grin and flipped him the middle finger.
Steven's eyes narrowed dangerously, his expression turning venomous.
"Gordon, seize him. Take him to the police station."
Gordon looked utterly desperate. "Mr. Lancaster..."
My face changed, and just as I was about to intervene, Mr. Lancaster Sr. spoke first, his voice a roar. "I'd like to see who dares! Steven, have you lost your mind? Why would you arrest the Lopez boy?"
Steven's handsome face hardened as he looked at me impassively. "He assaulted me, and no one is going to protect him. Why can't I send him to jail? Do I need to show him any mercy?"
I could see it clearly now. It didn't matter what Ryan called me. In his eyes, any man by my side was just another one of my conquests.
Ryan spoke up for me, annoyed. "You're the one who jumped to conclusions and made assumptions about Zephyra. I've been calling her 'sis' the whole time. What other relationship could it be? But you went ahead and made up your mind. We were too angry to even bother explaining. Serves you right."
Steven remained silent, his lips pressed together.
Mr. Lancaster Sr. sighed, looking embarrassed. I shot a look at Ryan, signaling him to show the old man some respect.
Gordon offered a weak laugh. "So it was all a big misunderstanding. A family squabble."
Ryan completely missed my cue. The more he thought about it, the angrier he got, and he let out a cold snort.
"Don't try to claim kinship. I hit him because he's a heartless, cheating pig! I saw everything yesterday, how you helped that other evil woman bully Zephyra. I saw it, and I won't forget it. Don't worry, Zephyra doesn't love you anymore. She'll be coming back with me to the Lopez family soon. In the future, even if you regret it, don't you dare try to bother her again!"
"Go ahead and call the police. There are plenty of people who can get me out. And even if we end up in court, I'll be in the right. Stop trying to scare Zephyra. You—you can go sink into oblivion with that evil woman!"
Mr. Lancaster Sr.'s face changed. "What's this about helping an evil woman? What happened yesterday? Which woman did this brat help to bully Zephyra?"
