I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 431

Everyone was stunned. Even Mr. Lee, who had been a wallflower all evening, stared in disbelief.

It seemed they never imagined Steven would call me his wife, or that I was, in fact, his wife.

But then it clicked. No wonder Steven had shown up at a gathering like this and sat right next to me, making conversation. He was here for his wife.

Gordon's expression grew grim as he looked at Zachary, who was kneeling on the floor, his face pale. Shaking his head, Gordon sighed and muttered to himself.

"I told you something bad would happen if she didn't visit Mr. Lancaster. He's been on a rampage since he woke up..."

Megan, trembling with fear, quickly turned to me and apologized stiffly, looking like she was about to burst into tears.

"Zep— I mean, Mrs. Lancaster, I'm so sorry. I didn't know you were Mrs. Lancaster. Please, don't take anything I said tonight to heart. I was just talking nonsense. There's no way anything could happen between me and Mr. Lancaster—he wouldn't give me a second glance! Really, I was so out of line, completely delusional!"

My expression froze. My brain felt like it was about to short-circuit from everything Steven had pulled tonight.

What was he playing at? He'd been acting like a madman all evening, desperately trying to link himself to me, throwing around ambiguous terms in front of everyone. What was the point of playing the doting husband? Did he think I couldn't speak for myself?

I tried to reassure Megan. "Don't listen to him. We're divorced. I have nothing to do with him anymore."

Steven's eyes darkened slightly. I added, "Not only do we have nothing to do with each other, but he has a new flame, and I have a boyfriend. I've even met his family. If we get married someday, I'll be sure to invite you to the wedding."

Megan was the only one who had tried to defend me tonight, so I wasn't about to let her be embarrassed.

Steven crushed the wine glass in his hand, his cold eyes fixed on me. His gaze was a chilling mix of calm and madness.

"Zephyra, must you say things like that just to upset me?"

The atmosphere instantly plunged into an icy silence. No one dared to breathe, their eyes glued to the blood trickling from the glass shards embedded in Steven's palm. They clearly hadn't expected him to get this angry.

During the last design competition, Jonas had only turned on me—someone he considered a 'nobody'—because he was trying to curry favor with Linda, thinking she was his ticket to success. We wouldn't have had a falling out otherwise.

After the competition, he lost completely. If he was still looking for a way out, I guess getting together with a rich older woman was one path.

After kissing the woman, Jonas wrapped his arm around her waist and looked ahead, his eyes meeting mine. The smile on his face instantly froze, and a flash of intense resentment crossed his features.

I didn't linger on the sight, quickly averting my gaze and hurrying toward the elevator. After pressing the button, I couldn't help but yawn, pulling out my phone to browse for food delivery.

The long day of travel had left me tired, but I was even hungrier. I hadn't eaten a single bite at dinner; I'd been too full of anger.

Just then, I heard the sound of hurried footsteps behind me. I had just started to turn when someone kicked me hard from behind. I cried out in shock as my phone went flying. My head slammed against the wall, my ears ringing from the impact.

A moment later, someone grabbed me by the shoulder and threw me to the ground.
