I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 433

I was stunned, watching in horror as Steven beat Jonas half to death.

The sheer brutality of the attack... he looked like he was trying to kill him!

A shiver ran down my spine. Had Steven lost his mind?

"Steven, stop! You're going to kill him!" I pushed myself up, ignoring the pain in my back, and stumbled over to them. Jonas was covered in blood and on the verge of passing out. Terrified, I grabbed Steven's arm. "Let the police handle him! If you keep this up, he could press charges and you'll go to jail!"

If Steven went to jail, I'd be indebted to him—a huge debt I didn't want.

I only needed him to call the police, not to avenge me. I didn't need him to do that. Our relationship wasn't like that.

Gordon, who had just arrived, looked on with his jaw practically on the floor. "Mr. Lancaster!"

Steven's cold, fierce eyes met mine. "Where else did he touch you?"

I didn't dare mention he'd kicked me. "Just let him go first."

Jonas managed to speak, his voice as faint as a buzzing mosquito. "I'm... I'm gonna press charges…" Before he could finish, Steven let go. Jonas crumpled to the floor with a pained groan, but he was so beaten and dazed that the sound was barely audible.

Steven glanced at Gordon. "Take care of this." Gordon immediately responded, "Yes, Mr. Lancaster," and hauled Jonas away by the arm.

I had wanted to call the police and maybe get a few kicks in myself before they arrived, just to let off some steam. But looking at Jonas now, I couldn't bring myself to touch him.

I was afraid I might actually kill him.

Steven looked down at the cut on my forehead, his eyes deep and devoid of warmth.

I pressed the button for the 20th floor. I could feel blood trickling down to my jaw and wiped it with my sleeve before looking at him to finish what I was saying.

"I owe you for tonight. You're an investor, so you must be looking for talented jewelry designers. Tell me what type you're looking for, and I'll keep an eye out for you during the competition. We can call it even after that and go our separate ways. If you see me in trouble again, just call the police for me. You don't need to get involved."

I planned to build my brand and hire my own security in the future, but you can never be too careful. It was best not to make absolute statements; they had a way of coming back to bite you.

A storm gathered in Steven's eyes, and he let out a cold laugh. "Zephyra, do you think I'm some bored saint with a bleeding heart? If it hadn't been you in trouble tonight, I wouldn't have lifted a finger."

Was he saying I was special to him?

My expression tightened, and a heavy feeling settled in my chest. What was wrong with Steven? He used to be so stubborn; even if I knew he was helping me, he would deny it to his dying breath. Now, he was openly admitting it.
