I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 451

Do I really need to care about him?

I ignored him and looked at Jacob and Linda. “Let's go.”

Without even consulting me, Steven started to follow. I gritted my teeth. “If you two can't stop him today, you don't need to work for me anymore.”

The two muscle-bound bodyguards, who had been standing there like statues, finally sprang into action, blocking Steven's path.

“Sorry, sir. Our miss said you're not to follow.”

Linda's eyes widened, and she shot me a look that seemed to say, isn't this a bit much?

I didn't care.

Whatever Steven was planning, whatever was going on with Verna, he wasn't going to cling to me.

Steven glanced at the two decorative obstacles in front of him, then looked at me. “I'll say this one last time. You are not eating with him.”

I swept my hair back with one hand, defiantly challenging him, “I'm going to do exactly that. Who do you think you are?”

He's just my ex-husband. Does he really think I'm still his property?

With that cold retort, I grabbed a pale-faced Linda by the arm and headed out.

Jacob followed us, his eyes darkening slightly and the corner of his lip twitching in what seemed to be a mocking smile.

It was in a blind spot, unseen by anyone.

Steven's eyes turned dark as he spoke in a chilling tone.

“If you don't have anything useful to say, shut up. Just get it done, or I'm pulling my funding.”

Myron cursed, “You bastard! All you ever do is threaten me! So what if Jacob has one meal with her? What's the problem? It's not the middle of the night. You have to let her have a normal social life, or she'll hate you even more.”

“He has ulterior motives,” Steven said coldly. “He's targeting me.”

“He's just a junior designer. Besides being younger than you, he can't compare to you in any way. Sure, dating younger guys is definitely trending these days, and she's a kind person, but doesn't she like that Horace guy?”

Myron's analysis was quite logical. “And Jacob is no match for you anyway. What can he do by targeting you? He's not going to go after her to get back at you, is he? No way. That kid isn't that ruthless. At least, not nearly as ruthless as Horace—”
