I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 459

But compared to Horace's life-or-death devotion and Steven's mindless defense of Verna, the difference between love and non-love was painfully obvious.

In my past life, I was like a piece of business Steven had to manage—something he couldn't discard, but also couldn't develop feelings for. If I ever tried to connect with him emotionally, he would mock me, pushing me away with cold words.

He pushed me away for two whole years. Our relationship only began to improve in the third year. Looking back now, I don't even know how I endured it.

Steven's handsome face was stern, then he stared at me. “So you've compared me to Horace and concluded that my love doesn't measure up, that I'm far inferior to him?”

“I didn't mean to compare you two. I just came to a realization. You don't like me at all. This obsession is just about wanting what you can't have, or maybe you think that because I was your ex-wife, I can't be with anyone else. That's an extreme way of thinking, you know?”

I looked into his eyes and gave a mocking smile, trying to remain calm.

“This is enough, Steven. I admit I used to like you a lot, but that's in the past. It's really over. I've said this countless times, and I'm tired.”

“I just want to draw a clear line between us and start a new life. I hope you'll stop deceiving yourself, acting like you're some tragic, devoted lover who's been dumped and now has to stalk me, okay? Harassing your ex-wife is also against the law.”

Both Horace and I had died once before, and our deaths had been tragic. No matter why we were given a second chance, I believed we should cherish this precious new life and live in the present.

Steven's face went pale, as if he'd just been punched squarely in the jaw.

He stared at me without blinking his eyes. After a long silence, he asked in a hoarse voice, “How do you plan to start your new life?”

I replied without hesitation, “However I plan to live, you're not in my plan. We're really over.”

I was tolerating his recent bizarre behavior. If I didn't need to win this competition, if he tried to force himself on me again like he did the other night, the recording of this conversation would go straight to the police.

Steven looked down, hiding the extreme coldness and severity in his eyes. It was as if he already knew the answer but had to ask anyway, just to be sure.

We chatted briefly, and then I went to sleep. I had another competition day tomorrow, after all.

Meanwhile, Horace put his phone away and thanked his agent for helping with the meal delivery.

His agent suddenly exclaimed, “Horace, I got so busy I forgot to tell you! My friend said they couldn't deliver the steak dinner you ordered. The competition venue doesn't allow outside food; they consider it cheating. So… my friend ate it. Sorry, I couldn't help you out. I hope your girl didn't go hungry!”

Horace's eyes narrowed instantly. “You're saying the food never got to Zephyra?”

His agent nodded. “Yeah, they wouldn't let it in.”

Horace's expression turned icy. He already guessed what had happened.

“Change my flight to tomorrow morning. I want to see my girlfriend as soon as possible and cook for her—”
