I wanted to ask him to stop targeting Horace, but I was afraid that if I said anything, he'd only come down on him harder.
Forget it. Steven was never the magnanimous type.
Steven slowly stood up and handed my phone back to me.
As I reached for it, he suddenly grabbed my hand and yanked me into his arms. He towered over me, his gaze cold and sharp, making no effort to hide his animosity. His voice was a frigid rasp, seeming to claw its way from his throat.
“Are you sure?”
My mind went blank. I was completely baffled. “What do you mean?”
He let out a chilling laugh, his handsome face twisting with a dark, almost manic energy.
“Isn't it true? You never wanted to have children. You don't care. You never had any intention of being the mother of my child, Zephyra. Do you despise my child that much, or is it me you despise?”
“Your phone? Hah. You want to sort things out for Horace, don't you? So concerned about him. Thinking of him during your 'check-up,' thinking of him while you're in my bed, hmm?”
Staring at his face, so close to mine, my heart clenched painfully. A single thought screamed through my mind—
Steven had lost it.
Where was this bizarre logic coming from? It was as if I'd done something just like this before, something that had broken his heart.
“Zephyra.”
He seemed to have reached his breaking point, grabbing me and starting to drag me out.
I knew that look. It was the one he got right before he decided to punish me. It was the same in my past life. When he got this furious, he wouldn't hit me, but he would torment me in bed until there was hardly a difference.
I stopped trying to argue and just started screaming for help.
Passersby in the hospital turned to stare. Steven clamped a hand over my mouth, but my frantic struggles only drew more attention, with people trying to guess who we were. Finally, one person couldn't stand by any longer and stepped forward to intervene.
Steven shot the would-be helper a venomous glare. “Get lost.”
