Steven was silent.
Surprisingly, he didn't get angry. His long, slender hand cupped my chin, his deep eyes staring intently at me.
“You prefer the old me?”
In this life, neither the past version of him nor the present one was worth my preference.
I stated firmly, “I hate the current you more.”
When I was first reborn, I could clearly distinguish the Steven of this life from the one in my past. Now, the lines were blurred. This Steven was as ruthless as the man from my memories, but he didn't show the same obsessive devotion to Verna. I wondered if his dreams were affecting his personality.
Or perhaps…
Steven’s handsome features seemed clean and pure in the sunlight. Hearing my words, his expression darkened. Without another word, he bent down, grabbed the back of my neck, and kissed me, biting my lip hard.
I pushed and hit his chest in frustration, but he ignored my struggles, his hands roaming my body, stroking my waist with deliberate provocation. He only released me when I was breathless.
“Whether you hate me or not, how you hate me, or which version of me you hate—you are mine,” he said, his eyes dark and his tone possessive as he looked down at me. “Do you hear me, Zephyra? You belong to me, and only me.”
His eyes were filled with an intense, predatory ownership.
I stared back at him, wide-eyed and silent.
Just then, his phone rang.
It was a video call from Mr. Lancaster Sr.
Steven answered immediately. “Grandpa.”
“You brat, your head hasn’t even fully healed! Who told you to run around like that? You…” Mr. Lancaster Sr. began scolding him before he even saw the full picture. Suddenly, he stopped, his voice filled with shock. “Zephyra? Why is Zephyra with you?”
We were going back tomorrow? Why was this the first I was hearing of it?
No wonder Steven hadn't let me go anywhere today. He was planning to drag me away with him tomorrow.
“Good! I’ll have the butler prepare all your favorite foods,” Mr. Lancaster Sr. beamed, his face lighting up. Then he shook his head, his expression turning serious. “You haven't been bullying Zephyra, have you, boy? She couldn't stand you before. Why the sudden change of heart? Let me talk to her.”
Steven’s eyes shifted. “Couples fight and make up. We’ve resolved our misunderstandings, so things are fine now.”
Mr. Lancaster Sr. clearly didn't buy it. Steven suddenly bent down and kissed my cheek. I flinched and started hitting him, but with my back to the phone, his grandfather couldn't see my struggles, only the seemingly affectionate scene. He immediately grew cheerful.
“You’d better treat Zephyra well, you rascal. We’ll talk more tomorrow. Oh, you young people, take it easy, especially with that head of yours…”
Before he could finish, the video call ended.
Steven seemed to have developed an addiction to kissing me. He tossed the phone aside and leaned in, trapping me completely in his arms. His cool, soft lips pressed against mine, kissing me deeply, ignoring all my resistance.
