I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 497

“Now that she’s back with Horace, she has returned to her proper path. She is heading towards her destined ending. I won’t allow you to deviate. I absolutely will not allow you to… ugh!”

A sudden wave of suffocation washed over her. Verna’s face turned beet red as she struggled for air. She stared at the handsome young man before her, who had transformed from her protector into her adversary, her eyes wide with disbelief.

Her hands clawed desperately at the large hand wrapped around her neck.

Just as she was about to pass out,

Steven abruptly released her. Verna slumped in her wheelchair, nearly falling out as she gasped for breath.

She heard his cold voice.

“Mind your own business. If you dare to use my methods to go after her friends again, I promise you, your life will be very painful.”

“You know I’m not skilled at dealing with people, that’s why I borrowed your methods. It won’t happen again,” Verna said, looking at him while still gasping for air. “Zephyra is demanding money from me, and I don’t have any. Since you love her so devotedly, Mr. Lancaster, why don’t you pay this for me?”

“Otherwise, she’ll just come after me again. You know that the more she follows her script, the less likely she is to be with you…”

Steven’s expression didn't change. He shot her a cold look. He said nothing, but his eyes said everything. They mocked her for trying to rely on him again to get what she wanted, full of contempt and indifference.

Verna bit her lip hard, feeling utterly humiliated. She didn't say another word as she watched him get into his car and drive away.

A short while later, Verna received a call from her adoptive parents. Her face grew even more horrified, and she gripped her sleeves so tightly her knuckles turned white, like a drowning person struggling to surface but unwilling to sink. Her fists were clenched, making a cracking sound.

“I understand. You and Dad don’t do anything. Just let them smash whatever they want.”

Meanwhile, I was completely unaware of the exchange between Steven and Verna.

Horace relaxed. “So, our plans to go abroad… are they still on?”

I nodded, and he couldn’t help but smile again, his eyes crinkling with a renewed sense of hope.

When we got to the hotel, the agent said to me directly, “I’m leaving Horace in your hands. You two can share a room. I’m heading back. Call me if you need anything.”

After a moment, he couldn’t resist adding a few words to Horace, “You need to work on your temper. That’s Mr. Lancaster. Do you have any idea what he's worth? And you hit him… It doesn’t matter who started it, angering him will only lead to trouble. You should probably call him later and apologize…”

Horace’s expression was cold. “Never.”

He took my suitcase and went into the hotel.

The agent’s face hardened. He glanced at me, the question that had been on his mind all along now answered. He sighed heavily. “Ms. Jones, frankly, if you really want what’s best for Horace, you shouldn’t be with him. You’ll only end up destroying him…”
