I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 511

On the way home, the agent had already left, while Horace kept his eyes on his phone, messaging someone. He'd glance at me occasionally to see what I was doing, and then a wide grin would spread across his face as he looked back down, busy with his own affairs.

I pursed my lips into a smile.

Horace's joy was palpable; he must have been waiting for this day for a very long time.

As we neared the Lopez estate, the car stopped and we got out first.

Horace suddenly took my hand, his deep voice steady and gentle.

"Zephyra, if my family disagrees later, don't stand up for me. I'll convince them."

"Okay," I nodded. He took my suitcase with one hand and held mine firmly with the other, walking side-by-side with me.

Unexpectedly, as Horace and I reached the main gate, we saw Leonard in a trench coat, rushing out.

His usually stern face was drawn into a tight frown. He already had an intimidating presence, and now he looked completely unapproachable.

"Are you going out this late?" I called out to him. When Leonard saw Horace and me, his expression softened only slightly. "Yeah, something came up unexpectedly. We'll talk later," he said seriously.

With that, he glanced at Horace, his eyes first landing on our clasped hands, then on Horace's leg. "Is your leg better?"

The last time they'd met, Horace had been in a wheelchair, so it was no wonder Leonard was curious.

I was about to explain for Horace, but he spoke first. "I can stand now. With a few more sets of physical therapy, it should recover even better."

I was puzzled and felt a sense of unease. I texted Ryan, but he was so on edge he didn't even dare to look at his phone. I had to make a noise to get his attention and signal for him to come out.

When Ryan saw us, it was as if he'd seen his saviors. He was a flurry of nervous energy, muttering about needing the restroom, terrified of upsetting Grandpa. In the end, Grandpa still glared at him and scolded him.

"If you have to go, then go. Stop talking nonsense and get out of my sight."

Ryan, unlike his usual playful self, quietly made his way over to me.

He grabbed my hand and pulled me straight outside. "Zephyra, Horace, Grandpa was terrifying just now, and Leonard was even scarier. I was so frightened. Let's go, let's go!"

Horace's expression was grim, and he said nothing. My heart leaped into my throat. "What's wrong?"
