I didn't even know what I had done wrong, but Horace was the most innocent person in all of this.
But he just reached out and gently wiped away my tears. Even in his rage, his touch was soft.
“I only have one question for you,” he said. “Are you coming back?”
My guilt swelled to a breaking point, and tears streamed down my face. I nodded firmly. “I will. I’ll come back as soon as I’ve handled things.”
I could never be with Steven. Even if we were legally remarried, it wasn't possible.
Especially now that he was acting so crazy, so much like the man I loathed in my past life. This marriage—I had to get it annulled, no matter what!
As for Horace… whether he still wanted to marry me after this… I would accept any outcome.
Horace’s handsome, cold face softened slightly. “Fine. I’ll wait for you.”
Ryan couldn't help but interject. “Can't you see they're in love?! You can't force happiness. Why do you keep harassing Zephyra and ruining her life?”
Rachel added, “Steven, Zephyra doesn't love you anymore. You need to let go of what's lost and bless what's meant to be. Nothing good comes from forcing things. If you don't want more pain later, just divorce her again today.”
The next second, I felt Steven’s grip on my waist tighten so hard I thought he would crush my bones.
His expression darkened to its absolute limit. He let out a cold laugh. “Is that so? Well, I think I'll force it anyway.”
With that, he possessively wrapped his arm around my waist and led me away.
Horace didn’t follow. He just watched us go, his expression cold. Then, he looked down, his eyes filled with a chilling, murderous intent as he took out his phone and dialed a number.
Gordon and the others followed us, their faces impassive.
The atmosphere in the wedding hall was frigid and tense.
Once outside the hotel, Steven’s grip on me was so tight I thought my bones would snap. “Steven, you're hurting me!” I cried out, trying to pry his fingers off me.
He released me, only to suddenly sweep me up into his arms.
My exchange with Horace must have provoked him.
I tried to keep my voice even. “Of course I was reluctant. Is that news to you? How is Leonard? Where is he?”
“He's not dying,” Steven snapped, the car accelerating as his expression grew colder. “And I seem to recall telling you we were remarried.”
Seeing him so composed, I forced myself to bottle up my own urgency.
He was trying to control me, but he wouldn't let things get completely out of hand. It seemed like he was just looking for a fight.
I couldn't help but laugh coldly. I'd gotten under his skin. He had finally cracked. Everyone was telling him to divorce me, everyone thought he wasn't good enough for me.
Just like in my past life, when the whole world thought I had ruined him, that I was holding him back.
“But I only just found out my name is on your certificate! If you hadn't pulled this stunt, the name on mine would have been Horace—”
